I don't know how well I can describe this intersection, so here's a nifty map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=bellin...10986&t=h&z=17
So if you are heading south on "The Guide", there are two southbound lanes before the intersection, and after there is a third one on the right. And everyone wants into that third lane, since it leads to the interstate. Cars heading south in the right lane will either go straight or target the new lane as they cross the intersection (probably not technically legal, but everyone including the police does it, so who knows).
So I was on the cross street (Telegraph Rd), waiting to turn right into that third lane. The car ahead of me was also turning right. We had a red light. The car was creeping out...and out...and out...
He essentially was blocking that third lane. (On the Google map, there is a red car turning right there. Push that car out about another car length, and that is where this guy was sitting at.) Everyone had to go around him, and he just kept slowly creeping further and further out. He'd creep, a car would whizz by in the next lane, and he'd brake hard (as if the other car had magically appeared out of nowhere!). I wasn't sure whether to laugh or be terribly frightened at the spectacle I was witnessing. I was afraid that someone not paying attention would just slam into this guy.
Eventually, cross traffic stopped, and he drove off into that third lane...the one he eventually could have just pulled into anyways since he'd already blocked any oncoming traffic from going there. It was both ridiculous and a little frightening. It reminded me why I seldom drive to this particular corner of town.
[As an aside....Google has really screwed up where some of these businesses are actually located.....we're talking almost a quarter mile off for some of those businesses...]
