  • When Tahoes attack!

I was stopped at a red light at a intersection with one lane each direction. From the stop line back their about 6 cars, in front of me are two LS (the basic version) Tahoes which have that un-marked cop car feel for some reason, several cars behind me is a asshole lying on his horn, despite the red light.

The second the light turns green I know this idiot will do something. As the Tahoe's enter the intersection and turn right, the horn idiot, driving a BMW comes barreling down the wrong side of the road and attempts to cut in between said Tahoes.

As he does the flashing lights and sirens come on and, the idiot is trapped between two police cars. The boxed in moron is forced to drive down the road until until the intersection is clear where he is dealt with by three cops.

Ah, I love the smell of instant karma in the morning.

It does remind me of a story I picked up from a car forum where a car was seen performing a dangerous manoeuvre by one of the members - who had also just registered that the white Volvo T5 in front of him with tinted windows appeared to have a few too many antennas.

Sure enough, the Volvo was an undercover traffic-cop car, which prompty lit up like a Christmas tree.

Around here, very few departments use Tahoes. Most seem to prefer Chevy Impalas or Ford Crown Vics. Even the unmarked cars are easy to spot, if you know what to look for. They all have a distinct "low rent" feel about them--they're nearly always dark colors (black, dark blue, burgundy), rarely sport normal wheel covers (police cars have steel wheels, with tiny hubcaps), an extra antenna on the trunk, and they may, or may not have a spotlight on the pillar next to the driver. Oh, and some have push bars on the front bumper. Locally, they all have the blue/white license plates.

What? I build models people, I tend to notice small details

Seriously though, you don't see unmarked cars being used to haul down speeders. Too many high-profile cases of fakes (and later, people not stopping for *legit* cops) forced departments to discontinue using them.

I have seen a few Chargers begin to creep into my area with the end of the Crown Vic. Though when they do use SUVs it is usually a Explorer, but i'm not sure how long that will last with the changes Ford has made to the 2011 Explorer. Hence maybe trying out Tahoes.

Around here a LEO car can and will be anything on wheels. They use them for roadrage enforcement. The plate also will not always be official and look like normal plates.
