  • Exploding trucks, dances-with-cones, and more!!!

I thought I was going to die on my way to school today.

No really, what are you doing?

While in a line of cars waiting to turn left on to the on-ramp, a Uhaul truck suddenly "pulled over" into the median area. No turn signal, no flashers, nothing. He just suddenly swerved, and parked there.

I waited a bit, to see if he was going to turn on his flashers or do something, but he didn't. So I began to pull forward...just as Uhaul truck began to pull back into the lane without warning!!!

I opted to quickly speed up to get around him. Looking in my rearview, I saw the pickup behind me had to swerve half-into the next lane over, which pushed that traffic into the bike lane! Fortunately, idiot Uhaul driver realized that hey, there are cars he had to yield to. He tried to budge in front of the pickup, but that guy would not let him in! I silently applauded the pickup driver for standing up to Stupid Uhaul Guy.

    Dances-with-Cones!

There is a lot of interstate construction going on in town. This is annoying, as it slows everyone down. They have "ramp traffic" on the right and "thru traffic" on the left, effectively eliminating the passing lane.

Well, car on the right decided he wanted to move left anyways. So he signaled, and began looking for a spot to move over on.

Now, while traffic was slower, it was still moving at a fair rate of speed. For some random reason, there was a large construction cone (the big, barrel-like ones) between the two lanes up ahead. Just one, all by itself. And the lane-changer, beginning to make his move, was looking everywhere except this lone cone that his car was barreling straight towards!

I saw it coming, so I backed off. At the very last second, the driver saw it, swerved sharply, and thankfully was able to correct and miss the cone. It's partly his fault for not looking ahead, but still, that cone was just randomly there!!! WTH?!?! It was the only cone out between the lanes anywhere!

    Exploding trucks!

My exit ramp runs adjacent to another exit ramp. As I was coasting off, I saw a huge plume of white smoke suddenly engulf a semi in the other off ramp. In my rearview, just before he dropped out of my sight, he popped on his flashers. Glad I wasn't getting off at that ramp...

If you cut me off, at least get up to speed...

On my way home, I was just approaching the on-ramp, when someone two lanes over cuts all the way across in front of me. We get on the interstate, and this b---h is going 10 under the limit! It's night; there's no other cars slowing us down; she just wants to crawl along. Fortunately because there were no other cars around, I was able to pass her, but sheesh! If you're in so much of a hurry to get to the on-ramp that you feel the need to cut me off, at least get up to speed!

    Yeah, you're not passing me.

I was approaching and about to overcome a car up ahead, so I pulled left, passed him, and pulled back to the right. He was going the speed limit, I was going a little over the speed limit (er...11mph is a little, right?), I just drive around him, no big deal, right?

I pass this guy, move back to the right, and then he moves left like he's going to pass me! Dude, I'm going about 10mph faster than you...why do you think you want to pass me? I got about 1/8 mile away when he gave up and moved back to the right. It was all so...pointless.

People do that to me all the time. I've never been one to romp the gas to get going, I think it's easier on your fuel economy anyways.

It never fails, someone behind me is always on my ass on the on-ramps or going into the empty extra lane just to get ahead of me, and once they are on the freeway for good, they tootle at 60 mph.

Lots of white smoke all at once is probably actually steam - meaning a coolant pipe or radiator just burst.
