Monday I was off to see a new audiologist (YAY me). As my friend and I were headed down the hill, we noticed a semi truck weaving all over the road. This road is a 2 mile long, 2 lane each way, steep grade curve. The downhill side runs along a hillside and the uphill side runs along a cliff. Not a place you want to see a weaving Semi truck. My friend decides to pass him and as we do, I look up into the cab and see... The driver is TEXTING ! He is driving a semi with a loaded trailer and he is texting. He almost hit us as we passed him, then at the bottom of the hill, he almost took out the guardrail. I was so freaked out that I called 911. Thank the gods for speaker phone because since I am half deaf, I couldn't understand the 911 people. My friend told me after that the operator said "he is driving a COMPANY truck and he is TEXTING?" (caps for emphasis) I don't know what finally ended up happening as we took one freeway and he took another but I am hoping that he got pulled over and had a stern talking to if not a ticket.

Some people just should not be behind the wheel of a semi--or any other moving vehicle, for that matter! Good on you for reporting him! Hopefully the authorities caught up to him and put a stop to it, before he caused some real damage!

Some people, I wouldn't trust on their own two feet! Especially while texting! How many incidents have we read about where some idiot is texting while walking along and falls down an open manhole, or into a fountain, or some other idiotic thing that could've been avoided if they'd been paying attention to what they were doing?Quoth BrenDAnn View Post

You want to text, fine, move to a safe location (out of the traffic area) and park or sit down. Then you can text all you want! It's not rocket science.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

This one was a company rig. Same name on the rig and the trailer, plus they are well known around this area. It still blows my mind that it happened.
I did however find out that the 911 system is trying to also allow for text messages. I think they will be able to receive reports and provide responses by text. This would be so awesome for me because I had to have someone else talk to the operator since I could not hear or understand them.
