  • I admit my fault

This is about my driving failure.

I have a college friend who moved down to the St Louis suburbs with his then girlfriend after graduating. They got married on November 5th at a winery an hour and a half outside the city. I was taking another college friend as a date as she lived in an Illinois suburb of St Louis.

Due to lots of traffic and my getting lost in St Louis for ten minutes when the main highway was shutdown for construction, we were running a bit late when I picked up my friend. From her house to where the wedding was being held should have taken almost 2 hours. We just made it in an hour and 15 minutes, exactly at the starting time.

That wasn't the bad part. To reach the winery, we had to get off the highway and take some back road My friend told me after we arrived that she was in fear for her life that entire stretch. I asked why she didn't say anything, she said she doesn't confront people while driving. Admittedly, I should have driven slower during many of those back road turns as Missouri seems to have a dislike of guardrails. On the way home, I did make sure to drive more carefully.

You sound like my old friend Rob. I used to literally white-knuckle it in his car.

And you didn't get pulled over by cops? I'm amazed. I swear they're a dime a dozen here and will pounce on a speeder in a heartbeat.
        Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
        DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I will rarely drive with my mother. She is the most scared, unpredictable driver who loves her brake pedal a little too much. I've nearly thrown up from the force of her slamming the brake and the seatbelt digging into my gut.

One time, we were going to the hospital to see my brother, it was just after daylight savings so it was now dark out a little after 5 pm, and my mom was tapping that brake and slowing down for people who were turning right on red one or more intersections in FRONT of her. There was no need for that.

Call her on it, she starts screaming about backseat drivers (granted, that is annoying, but when you're an awful driver, you need to be told so), but this time, she just yelled "I HAVE BAD DEPTH PERCEPTION!"

You really shouldn't be driving then, at night, if you think someone turning right more than 50 feet ahead of you is a threat.
