Oh, man. We're surrounded by idiots.
I've mentioned the hill we live at the bottom of.
Another problem spot is the main road into and out of the neighborhood. This road intersects ours. Going outbound on it from our neighborhood you go over a hill on this main road and into an s-curve going down the other side. The second part of the curve is where our road intersects it.
Thankfully our road intersects on the inner part, because people who lose control end up hitting the telphone pole across the way instead of, say, our car when we are waiting to pull out onto the main road.
And people lose control there all the freaking time. The speed limit is supposed to be 20mph. However, due to state law, 20 is not enforceable. Meaning if you get a ticket for speeding around here you can fight it and it will be dismissed.
Everyone who lives here knows this and shares this knowledge with people who probably aren't smart enough to handle such knowledge.
[No worries. Our neighborhood association is working on plan to close this loophole. It's just a matter of time. The rest of that aspect is best discussed on fratching. Now back to the idiots.

To these "special" people the fact that speeding laws are effectively waived seems to translate into physics laws being waived as well.
Last week my husband was standing off the main road talking to a neighbor and witnessed a head on collision. Thankfully the innocent driver was going slow and the kid who crossed the line had jammed on her brakes. Nobody was hurt.
Then just yesterday my husband was unloading groceries in our driveway and heard the familiar sound of tires screeching as someone came over the hill on the main road and realized he couldn't navigate the turn. He started running towards the main road to see if he'd need to call 911. Again.
Luckily the usual thud never came. He merely glimpsed a pickup truck go sliding by the end of our street. Sideways. By the time Mr. Dips got to there, the driver had straightened it out and gone on his merry way. Tires still audibily screeching as he rounded other corners on his way out of the neighborhood.
It's not being an idiot so much as an idiot who doesn't learn that scares me.
