i called her up to chat but she wanted to keep the phone line clear...

she's waiting for an estimate on the car. i knew they'd gotten a check engine light issue cleared up the other day and assumed it was worse than expected.

nope. new issue.


Apparently she was at a stop light when someone pulled up behind her ... and typical of the locals, the other car pulled up too close. So when the other driver's foot slipped off the brake, they rear-ended Mom.

Mom doesn't sound too upset - the damage was minimal. But she's having it looked at anyway because... hey it's the other driver's insurance that will cover the damage.

And I added, "And it will teach the other driver to be more careful".

Nice thought, but I doubt it. They might be more careful for a while, but they'll go back to their old habits soon enough.

or at least their insurance will teach them a lesson. ... or at least document it so if they do it again it'll show up on their history
