  • Who Drives Through a Tornado?

This was last summer. I live on one side of a river and I work on the other. My sister told me that her weather station was telling her that there was a tornado in the county I was in and she didn't know if I could see anything but apparently it was headed right for me.

Look outside, can't see anything. Decide I'm going to work.

Apparently there must have been people who knew about it or something because as I'm going to work there's this MASS EXODUS out of the town and onto the highway. I think nothing of it since I'll be across the river in no time and the tornado is supposedly in the county I'm LEAVING.

Well they lied. I pretty much ran right into it on the other side of the river. A completely different county. So I do what comes naturally when there is 0 visibility, pouring rain, winds that are whipping fully grown trees side to side from their very BASE. I ease myself to the shoulder under and overpass to wait it out. I inch my Blazer up pretty far so that people who want to come in behind me can get behind me.

People are FLYING past me through this weather, you can't see a damn thing and the lightning is putting spots in my eyes. Finally it starts hailing so cars start to line up behind me. A huge pick up gets behind me and HONKS at me. Fine. So I inch up so the rain is just barely in front of me. Honks at me again. I lift an eyebrow but whatever. I make the decision that since my car already has hail damage all over it, my hood can take the beating. My Blazer's got scars from all sorts of adventures, it can handle a few more ice rocks. I pulled up so far that my whole hood was getting pelted by hail and rain. This seemed to appease him enough.

Really? REALLY? And through all this there were STILL people flying around us. Right out of the overpass you could see their cars skidding sideways from the force of the wind. What did they think was going to happen?!

But in the end we all lived happily ever after (except the guy in the ditch who I'm assuming was very mad) and my car looks no worse than it did when I started out that morning. A few more pock marks but nothing notable.

I'm glad you're ok! I hadn't paid attention to the news the last couple of days--too busy--so I found out from my mom about the tornadoes and stuff. I'd only heard the snow forecast for my area. It's been a weird winter. It's been too warm, too dry here. Tornado season seems to have hit early in other parts. I shudder to think what summer will bring.
"Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

we had warnings a couple of days ago
and today there's supposedly one within 50 miles.

so far the weather looks nice...ish. partly cloudy with lots of wind, but we had thunder in the morning and the wind seems to be picking up.

lucky for me it's my day off...but not my bf's day off. but he's smart too so i know he'll be careful.
