I had this lovely brain fart of a pedestrian cross in front of me today...Keep in mind that, as another forummer put it, pedestrians here tend to regard jaywalking as a competitive sport >_> This guy at least kinda sorta used the corner, so I'll give him that.
I was going down a 35mph street, doing the limit. 2 lanes going my way, then a neutral ground in the middle, then 2 more going the other way. This wonderfully intelligent individual, who may or may not have been riding on a cloud of undisclosed medicinal products at the time, I'm not sure, decided that this was a good day to die, but dammit, he NEEDED to cross that street right in front of me. Fortunately, I saw him in time to slow down so he could safely cross...
Now, at this point, you may be wondering -- did he look my way and do what sooo many drivers do, that is, wait until I can see the whites of their eyes before pulling out in front of me? Well...not quite.
Ya see, to do that, he would have had to have been looking at me. Or in my direction...Which he did not. He was looking AWAY from me the entire time, staring at the cars driving away from him, presumably oblivious to the fact that, had I not gotten new brakes last year, I might not have been able to slow down and avoid him in time >_> It was pretty close, and I really don't think he knows just how close he came to becoming a stain on the concrete.
