  • trying to box us in

On the way home recently some white car kept trying to box us in. I'm pretty sure it was on purpose, but I don't know why.

The first time he did it - we were behind a car and he was *almost* holding hands with it, slowing to 70 so we were stuck right where we were.

Then traffic opened up and we got through... only for him to do it to us a SECOND time. IIRC he even sped up just to be in that spot to block us in.

So I decided to fuck with him. I pulled out my itouch (I was the passenger) as if I was taking a photo or video* of the car and ... well well well... he suddenly took off and stopped trying to box us in.

    * actually I did take a video. I turned it on and decided, well the camera's up anyway might as well make it real.

Although I do know that can sometimes escalate a situation. but it makes me think that for whatever reason he had a grudge against us and was boxing us in on purpose.

Huh, that's weird. Some people are just stupid behind the wheel. You wanted to change lanes?

Though I'm often either like that car or like yours, but I haven't considered it to be boxing in. Just that I'm driving along. Could be I'm not picturing it right in my head XD.

I do the camera thing, too. I find it helps bring on the shame.

      Some people are jackasses.

If someone tries to block you in and there is nobody behind you for a decent ways, stomp on the brakes and swing out from behind the car in front and get behind the car boxing you in or a different lane so you are further from the boxing cars, or turn off the road. Bonus points if you can find a cop car or police station [I tend to live in military areas and would head for the nearest military base. I got DOD stickers on my vehicles and can at least get inside the gates of pretty much any DOD facility. Armed guards make me happy ...] but any populated area would work, even if it is just a gas station.

I believe Blas calls it "holding hands" - when two cars maintain the same speed on the highway side by side.

Jerk pretty much pulled up alongside us and then started holding hands with the car ahead of us, actually slowing down to match the speed.

        Twice.

Ah, I get it now. I guess I haven't been bothered by that since I'm usually in heavy flowing traffic XD.

I've had that happen, the worst time being the guy then tried to swoop in and do a brake job on me. I changed lanes and passed him and looked over at him. He looked at me, looked surprised, then took off. My guess is that he thought I was someone else, maybe an ex, that he decided to harass.

Probably one of those people that is trying to enforce the speed limit.

Most people I know that are holding hands with another vehicle, I don't think they are really doing it on purpose, I believe the person in the right hand lane either has no control over their gas pedal or has never heard of cruise control.

I've gone to pass people who were originally putzing at 60, and then suddenly, they hit the gas as soon as I switch lanes, and we're now both doing 70, and people in the left lane are getting up behind me, angry that I'm *only* going 70.

Yet, you back off and get back behind them, they are going 60 again. Then maybe up a bit to 65, back down to 60.....fuckers.

Around here in the DC Metropolitan area, we call that "Nestoring", especially if they park themselves in the left (fast) lane and drive the speed limit.
