Red Light and Sheriff's Car Does Not Mix

This happened on my way to work this am. I was in the right left turn lane of a 2 left turn lane intersection. There was a black pickup truck ahead of me. In the left left turn lane was a sheriff's car. Our lights (as in the 2 left turn arrowns and the 2 straight ahead lanes were red). All of a sudden the black pickup starts to move forward slowly and then just completes his left hand turn. The minute the lights for us all turned green the sheriff's lights came on and he turned. Black pickup pulled over and gave up without a fight. I think he (or she, didn't see who was driving) just had a bit of a brain fart.

ive done that before. there is an intersection that has 2 lefts and a single straight/right turn lane. i was up waaay too late for my schedule and when the arrow turned green i went straight, didnt realize it until i hit the curve right after the intersection.

Where we moved from someone was in the straight ahead lane with a cop car in the left turn in oncoming traffic. Left turn got a greed arrow but straight aheads didn't. This guy saw the green arrow and started to go straight but stopped himself. Cop, I think, realized what he did and didn't do anything about it. However, the guy this morning, all the lights were red so I really don't know what he was thinking. I was kinda hoping he just got off with a warning because I really don't think it was on purpose.

been a couple of times i've been soooo tempted to do something like that.
then i look up and see... "o gee there's a cop, eh never mind" - not that i'd do stuff like that on purpose tho...

There's a junction on my way home with a straight arrow & a cross-oncoming turn arrow, and the number of people who start moving in the turn lane when the straight light goes green is incalculable...
