  • passing in the right at very high speeds

seems to be the thing for today.

now "passing on the right" itself I don't question cos afaik it's only illegal if you're using the shoulder to pass. at least that's what my state laws say.

but the cars in question were doing worse than that... they apparently felt the left lane wasn't fast enough so they would zoom to the right and then streak back into the left, cutting people off. often only having inches to spare.

the last one i saw today... i moved to the right lane cos i needed to be in that lane anyway for my exit. Besides "slower traffic keep right" no?

so the guy... instead of zooming past me on the right and cutting me off, ended up switching lanes earlier but kept on speeding. until he was INCHES away from the car ahead of him.

Even then I saw his tires move, like he was going to zip to the right again to pass... until he realized there was a truck right there. i swear i think he was going to run the car ahead of him off the road.

I nearly shat myself the other night on the way to work because some impatient woman, who had been weaving a basket around traffic nearly the entire way with me following her in the left lane (I tend to just get in the left lane and stick my cruise on and hope no one makes me have to cancel it and pass all the slow people and finally get over just a bit before my exit), made a fatal error that a lot of basket weavers make: Continually going from lane to lane, they don't account for the fact that in front of every "slow" person they pass, there's usually another person and other person ahead of them, oftentimes going just as slow. So, she nearly sideswiped me because she didn't even look before instantly wanting to hammer into the left lane.

I remember watching someone switching lanes just like that ahead of me... I was doing 10 over the limit, and I guesstimated he was doing at least 20 over. I said to myself, "How much do you bet he's going to get held up at the next red light and I'll end up right behind him?" I won that bet.

That's pretty much what I see happening to the idiots around here who whip around other vehicles like they're running in the Daytona 500. They get pwned by the red light 9 out of 10 times.

Now did that get you any further any faster, Stupid?

Try having a semi pass you on the right in a lane that's ending, and damn near kill you in the process of merging back in front of you. Yup. Had that happen, and I was in the passenger (right side of the car) seat. I don't recall ever seeing my father as angry at another driver as he was that day, He even got out of the car and went to the guys semi to confront him at the next stop sign we met at,

THIS. Seriously. This is why the fucktards end up having to slam their brakes.

cos as i said this was a whole weekend of it happening. the first fucktard of the weekend did it to me directly - cutting in even though i only had maybe a 2 car lengths between me and the car ahead of me. so he had to slam his brakes on directly in front of me.

now granted the stoplight isn't an issue here cos this was on the highway.... but yeah dumber stuff happens on the roads too... especially right by the army base. O_o

Yeah, we don't get a lot of basket weavers on the roads with a lot of stoplights, I was mostly referring to the freeway on the way to work.

You have to be special to think you can literally just keep changing lanes like that and everything will go smooth. If you're trying to do 80, and you keep having to constantly hit the brakes, it's because of what I said above. NO DUH there are more slow people ahead of the first and second and third slow ones you passed. And more importantly, LOOK before you just start veering over.

I was on the way to the vapor shop yesterday during evening rush hour (not as bad heading further into town but still full of impatient people) i passed an unloaded rig while he was getting on the highway. about a mile later is a junction with another highway that causes a slowdown (because they love those clover leaf on ramps), I had nearly stopped thanks to weavers deciding to get on the other highway and the rig i had passed swings over the breaker lines into an on ramp going full speed and gets in front of the line ahead of me. I had to shudder, if he'd had a full load it wouldn't have been pretty but even with no trailer it seemed like a bad idea.

I saw a 'basket weaver' last week, was even using the breakdown lane, until... the breakdown lane abruptly ended in a work zone and he was trapped. Sometimes, karma works.
