This is a roadkill sighting from Hubby's workplace.
So, Hubs is up in the guard shack of a gated community, going guard shack stuff (actually he said he was just about to eat dinner when this happened) when a member pulls up to the gate. Gate arm goes up, member starts to pull through...and smashes into the base of the gate arm. Some of the fender of the car gets torn off. The member drives off, leaving the bit of fender behind.
Hubs calls Patrol, who manages to catch up to the member just as she pulls into her driveway. She beelines it inside.
Patrol knocks on the door several times, but the woman doesn't answer. Eventually her husband answers, who Patrol said was drunker than a skunk. Patrol explains what his wife did. The husband mentions it is, in fact, his car she was driving. Patrol and the husband go out and inspect the damage. The husband is not pleased. After the husband goes back in, Patrol can hear him yelling at her.
An hour later, the husband (still half-drunk) goes up to the guard shack and talks to Hubby. Hubby informs him that Patrol is ticketing his wife for reckless driving and she'll have to come up to sign the ticket.
The husband then informs Hubs that his wife had just returned from a somewhat boozy retirement party, and that he had been waiting for his wife to come home and pass out so he himself could go out and imbibe in alcoholic drinks. He seemed mostly concerned about the damage to the vehicle. He picked up his bit of fender and went back home.
A while later Patrol noticed the car was no longer in the driveway, so the husband apparently decided to continue with his plans to drive out for his own booze night.
Fortunately, the gate arm was scuffed but not severely damaged. They just replaced it last week when another member rammed it, so Hubby was glad the woman only grazed it.
