SC stops me by the automated gate while I'm visiting a condominium community that we manage.

SC - The gate is broken!!!
Me - (I can see the gate from where I'm standing. It looks fine to me.) What's it doing?
SC - It's not calling me when my guests come to see me!
Me - Oh, well maybe it's programmed with the wrong phone number.
SC - Well, fix it!
Me - Sure, what's your phone number?
SC - I don't have one!
Me - You're upset because the gate won't call the phone that you don't have?
SC - Yes, it should call me!
Me - On what?
SC - I'm sure it has a phone built in or something so that it can call people.
Me - Yes, but the way phones work is that there has to be a phone on the other side to place the call.
SC - Are you sure?
Me - Do other people call you on the phone that you don't have?
SC - Of course not! That's silly!
Me - Then the gate can't do it either.

Sooooo, how can this person not understand the concept of the telephone? There has to be 2 of them to communicate, its been that way since the old crank style phones came out in the late 1800s. Since this customer may be too cheap to go and buy a phone, I think you should give them 2 metal cans attached to a string
