I used to get the fake sympathy too. However, some customers were seeing red on Thanksgiving 2005 because a friend had the gall to bring me a plate of Thanksgiving dinner and in between serving customers I was chowing down on it.

I used to go into real Randall Graves character at that job, quite often. I never had the balls to outright tear into the occasional customer, but the way I bitched about my job........if he wasn't too old for me, I'd marry him.

when the SCs decided it is much more fun to pay for a 75 cent cup of coffee with a $50 bill than a $1 bill....or god forbid, change.

I believe since at least the mid-to-late 1800s? I get those a LOT more often as a cashier than I would expect, since most banks/check cashing places will not use $50 bills by default. For example, if you cashed a $90 check, you would not get a $50 and two $20's. You'd get four $20's and a $10.

I have Easter Sunday off too. Once I was asked if I wanted to work it by a customer and I said no. She asked why and I said because its my time off and I like to spend it the way I see fit. She gave me a look and I thought I was gonna get busted or something but it turned out I was ok....it was just the woman wanted to know why someone would want to take Easter off when they would get tripple time...

Turns out we're closed for Easter. Thank god.

We had a memo saying we should close, but there was a possibility of staying open.

We had to see if IGA would open on Easter. if it did, so did we.

But it's not, so YAY! I get to eat my Kinder Surprises in bed!

                      (1) At our store, we're only closed Christmas day. Even then we get people complaining... If they want a movie for the family for Christmas, they should rent it Christmas Eve - they get an extra day rental free!
I'm looking forward to the nice deposit to my bank account after working Easter Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday this year though!

                      (3) I find these people - the ones that instruct you to do something as you're halfway through doing it, or even very nearly finished - some of the most annoying people ever. Worst part is you can't say anything like "Yes, I was just doing that" because they get all uppity and say "I was just trying to HELP!"

Heck, I'm glad most of you folks are off Easter Sunday. I've gotta go in at 5 AM to set the ad...don't know why--no one is going to be shopping so why run a darn sale?!

They aren't even going to give us time and a half for working. Last year was the first time the store was ever opened on a Easter Sunday in thirty five years. Half the people scheduled called in, too. Why bother opening?

Lucky! I close both Friday and Saturday and now I open Monday morning (AFAIK, we're closed Easter) and get squat extra for that.

I had requested last Sat off, but ended up opening b/c that person was having family issues and stayed until I had to leave for a prior commitment (why I RQ/O in the first place). So today I got an email asking if I could help at two events later this month - my reply was fine, if I could have the 14-15th of April off so I could go to an event I just learned about (that schedule wasn't done yet). In return for requesting what will be my FIRST Saturday off this calendar year, I ended up with the Sat close-Mon open deal. And I'm the only employee with family out of town!

I'm not sure what extra I get, but I'm pretty sure I'll get Public Holiday Pay for Saturday, and might get Sunday Pay plus Public Holiday Pay for Sunday... I might get Public Holiday Pay for Friday, cos nearly everyone is closed on Friday? But I'm not sure. I plan to find out all the details when I go in Friday
In any case, it's a vast improvement to my usual one 3-hour shift a week

Why are you closed on Easter?

Cuz we have to spend the day hunting for eggs! Silly...

Actually BN only closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Christmas Eve, Easter, July 4th, they close early (maybe a couple others, I don't remember), and New Year's Day they open late.

We're open every day but Christmas day, and we still got bitched at this year about it.
I'm not working anyway since I'm on holidays (yay finishing an Honours thesis) so it doesn't matter to me.
