Although not all of them require it, where would the USB devices that do get the juice in such a lashup?

You'd need to add yet another component to the lashup - a USB hub which is hooked up to a "wall wart", on the assumption that people will plug in devices with an aggregate current drain more than the computer's USB port can handle.
