I had that same thing once or twice at the wholesale club as well. I had to point out to the customers "see that little '-V' next to the item? That means it was voided out."

At my store, voided items don't actually show up on the receipt when printed, only on the screen at the time it's done. SCO screens indicate a void in bright red font, the regular registers don't do anything at all to distinguish it other than a tiny minus sign (which could be mistaken for dust on the screen) next to the price. Given that a lot of our customers are elderly and can't see very well, we really should have it colored in some way.
