Hello, I thought I'd just start with one short story that happened awhile ago.
I used to work as an assistant manager for a medical research charity, in this shop, there used to be shelves behind the till counter where the more valuable donations would be displayed.
On this occasion I was standing there serving, when a woman decided to walk behind the till to get to these shelves. I moved and blocked her path so she couldn't get any further. The woman, very deliberately moved to place one of her feet on top of mine, and increased the weight as she tried to explain how she was always allowed to go behind the till by the volunteers. This went on for about for only 5 or 10 minutes, with me trying not to let on she was hurting my foot (I didn't know how to react to what she as doing so just tried to ignore it) and explaining I'd be happy to just place items on the counter for her to look at, and if she could please leave the area behind the till for security reasons.
She gave up eventually, but my foot was sore afterwards! I hope that drabble made sense.

. This was about 5 years ago, and I at the time had no confidence, was very much a meek little mouse with no idea how to deal with any conflict (I should never have been made an assistant manager, but that's another story), so I just took it. It wasn't a case of me being polite, I was too scared to respond in any other way.
Some people are just evil, nasty bullies, looking to start trouble wherever they can. Customer service people are, unfortunately, a favorite target of these bullies, because the public has been brainwashed into believing that The Customer Is Always Right. Therefore, if you call them out on their behavior, they'll go running to your manager and get you in trouble for Bad Customer Service. And if you don't call them out, they just keep hurting and hurting you. We can't win.
Not that it hurt, I was wearing steel toed sneakers. I have no idea why she tried it, warehouse all had to have steel toed work shoes. Maybe she figured since I was a girl I didn't?
