This is what an SC said when I informed her that she was not allowed to use a lipstick case to wedge the trigger on so that she could leave the pump going while she sat in her car and yakked on her mobile. Well, it also doesn't say, "Don't put the nozzle in your mouth and drink the fuel" but most people have the common sense not to do that!

Our pumps have a feature that holds the pump handle down on its own if you engage it. Then again, that feature involves an automatic shut-off. Trying to do so with a pump not designed for that could be disastrous. What ever happened to common sense, anyway? Oh wait...almost forgot what forum I'm on.

The lipstick case was also made of plastic, meaning that if (when) it snapped under the strain, the nozzle would fall out of her car and hit the ground, resulting in a definite spillage and a probable damaged nozzle. Plus the possibility of an innocent customer being injured if they were hit by the falling nozzle.

We've got those in my state too... Odd thing, when I travelled to Hawaii theirs don't. It was kind of trippy because I got used to the automatic shutoff to indicate a full tank. On the plus side, I learned something and was more attentive to my vehicle.

... Would never dream of jamming a gas pump handle like that, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.

Be glad that E85 isn't on your side of the pond - chavs would probably try that, since it's 85% boozeohol. Unlike the Vinegar Boy saga (malt vinegar will make you puke before you drink enough to harm yourself), the other 15% is gasoline, which is poisonous.

Of course not - in fact, she'd demand that YOU pay for getting her car washed after the gas spilled down the side.

When I was in driver's ed, the cops would tell gas pumping horror stories. We're afraid we are going to get burned alive, but it is very effective.

When I worked at the Convenient, a woman pulled a similar stunt and went inside the store to use the restroom. She disabled the automatic shutoff in the process and by the time anyone realized what had happened, there was gas gushing all over the place.

After the MOD hit the emergency shutoff, she figured out who the customer was and let me tell you, she ripped into this woman up one side and down the other. The first thing she shouted was, "Are you a fucking idiot?!" And it just got better from there. She charged that customer for wvery drop of gas and made it very clear that we could have called the police and/or the fire marshall. It was beautiful.

Should've called the bears and the funny hat men anyway. I hope that customer got banned from the whole chain - and her identity and what she did circulated to other chains. Would have served her right to not be able to get gas ANYWHERE.

We had someone also do that during my time at the gas station. EXCEPT we had to call the fire dept. for a hazardious material spill since the gas flowed down to the sewer grate (said sewer was connected to the city system). The fire dept. ripped the guy a new one and threatened to charge him criminally AND fine him for amount of time they spent at my station (LOTS of water was dumped down that sewer over the hour they were there.

Several others who did the same thing got really irate when we had the adacity to charge them the full amount they "pumped".
