I have had customers drop a $100 on me first thing in the morning, but I have never had one pull one of these out of her purse before.



That's right! She had almost $10,000 in her purse! Still in the bank wrapper. And she pulls it out, peels off a $100 to pay right in front of everybody.

Might as well have a "Please rob me" sign on her back.

I'm not sure I'd be able to keep myself from saying something if I had that happen. Why in the name of all creation would she be carrying that around with her? Better yet, what bank would let someone take one of those out?

We had some guests from Kuwait pay their bill with hundreds the other day. They had two rooms and were with us for over 2 weeks, so it came to over $2000. We checked every bill with the counterfit pen. I don't know why, but some cultures seem to have more of a "must pay with cash" emphasis to them. He wasn't flashing it around though, so at least there's that.

I hate to say this BUT

me and my fellow pizza delivery drivers see this kind of thing at least a couple of times a year. Several situations are possible

Check cashing or bank place only gives out wads of $100's when cashing a check (most likely a paycheck) or when withdrawing a fair amount of money
Drug dealer pulls a HUGE wad/roll of $100's $50's and $20's out of their pocket.

the situation may involve other things.

I have done this once or twice in my life many many years ago when I paid cash for a computer (an Apple ][+ back in 1982) or (then) expensive top of the line dot-matrix printer.

I remember being so nervous when I was carrying our $400 in my purse after I closed out an account. I'm just not used to carrying around cash.

In one of the local bank branches, I saw a guy bring in a large stack of cash, which had to have been at least a few grand. He clearly was some sort of laborer, and he was covered head to toe in that day's dirt and grime. I suspect he worked in a mostly cash business, and that the money was to pay for his fellow laborers. The teller clearly recognized him, so this must have been a common thing.

While I've never had anyone like the OP, I will say that some people just carry around a lot of cash. Christmas time at *big box retail* was especially surprising to me. Someone's total bill would be a grand, and they'd pull out a big wad of cash and just start picking out hundred dollar bills to pay the tab. Managers would do drawer pulls every couple hours, because of how much cash was in the tills.

I wonder if it's partly because the internet connection isn't the best where they live? I remember reading an article about Venezuela and how the mobile banking would fritz in the rain.

One sign of my late aunt's dementia was that she insisted on having a large amount of money in her purse. (I was told this was part of her dementia by a social worker who had known her both before and after her diagnosis.) I also found money squirreled away in her house after her death, which turned out to be a good thing because I used it to pay her property taxes that were due (she wasn't delinquent.) Fortunately she hadn't let her bills get behind, but from what I could see she paid more or less random amounts on them.

On the days I withdraw enough cash to pay my rent, I always feel nervous as hell making the twenty-minute walk to my landlord's place, and I live in a pretty small, safe town. I blows my MIND that people in a large-ish city would not only carry large wads of cash around, but also flash said wad in such a conspicuous manner. If I could pay my rent online or via a money order, I would choose that method in a heartbeat.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer wins big at the racetrack, and a guy starts following him IMMEDIATELY after he collects his cash at the ticket counter, with obvious ill intent. Yeah, it's exciting to have a lot of money, but if you advertise the fact, you're not gonna have it for very long.

If I ever hit the lottery and have millions in the bank, I'm certainly not going to be blatantly obvious about it by throwing hundred dollar bills around like confetti.

I love what my old landlord did, he gave us a deposit book for his bank and we could deposit it straight into his bank. he didn't care how often we paid, weekly, fortnightly or monthly as long as it was paid in full by the due date
