Reading stuff like this makes me very thankful for trading laws in the UK. Once closing time is reached in the supermarket, customers have ten minutes to get their arses thru the checkout, or else the tills go off and there's no way to put them on til the next morning.

Then she has the nerve to say we were impolite and this is the worst customer service she has ever had blah blah blah.
"Before closing time, you're a customer. After closing time, you're a trespasser. I know a few cops who love to educate those who don't know how to follow rules..."

There's a negative review for the Costco near me because a lady was in after closing.

She also claims that an employee shined the flashlight in her face and wouldn't lower it. I just wonder if maybe that's because she wouldn't get out of the store?? As far as I'm concerned, you should be out of the store or at the least in line to checkout when the store closes. Yes, I know warehouse stores are big, but I don't get this assumption that closing times are just "suggestions."
And you know very well that if said SC was one of those employees, she'd be huffing furiously about all those inconsiderate customers who don't realize that employees have families and lives too.

Answering the thread title, that would be the part where Royal High Supreme Exalted Customer does not get their imperial demands met ASAP or someone advances the ridiculous claims that rules apply to ALL or that employees are human beings with needs and lives outside store hours.

I do not recommend staying in the store a single minute past closing, as the employees seem to take this as their time to vent all the days frustrations on their customers... I looked around and saw many other people continuing to shop. I left quickly but was rudely told by two other employees on my way out that the store was closed.

Back when I worked grocery, they'd just turn the lights off on you at closing time as your hint you'd overstayed your welcome and had to get out.

Once, a manager had to go into the darkened store with a flashlight to tell the customer to get out, because after it had gone PITCH BLACK except for the "exit" lights, this ninny had kept on shopping like nothing was wrong.
Back at Jeers we had one lady FREAK OUT when we did that. How DARE we turn off the lights, don't we know it's DANGEROUS, we need to keep the lights ON for our customers, blah blah blah argle blargle. THe fact we were closing never occurred to her, until someone said it. She did the classic customer-in-the-wrong "oh." Then flounced off.

I've developed a hover. I hover right over you and escort you to the cash. It's surprisingly effective.

We had the power go out because of a storm last Christmas so everything is shut off, including the tills. Our backup gen only has enough to keep the freezers cool for a few hrs and the exit signs lit. People were still trying to shop using the lights on their phones and we made the whole 'due to power outage we are temp closing as the tills cannot process orders sorry...blah blah blah.' And we still had to point out that even if you find all the stuff you need we are still not going to be able to ring it up. One customer suggested we 'can we stop being so lazy and do it by hand.' I had to ask how he expected to pay as the debit/credit reader would obviously be down and without power the till won't even open. (As you have to either log on/off or get a supervisor override for the drawer to pop open) and we can't get money from the cash office as you need to type in an electronic code and swipe a keycard to access the cash office (this is to keep unauthorized ppl out)

It's too bad you have to let people like this in at all.

"Sorry, we're closed. Come back tomorrow."

"But I need this NAAOOWWWW ..."

"Can't help you, sorry. We're closed. Come back tomorrow."

    What an idiot.

The rudeness was in waiting until the last goddamned minute to do all of this. You're in the clear.

  • What part of 'we are closed' do you not understand?

Had a shopper come in 10 to close which is fine, whatever. I have her the btw we are closing in 10min just so ya know speech so that she couldn't bitch later that nobody told her we were closing. (Yes they do, frequently) she got all wound up that we didn't have gallons that said 95 on them (grocery store lady. Not a place that has a huge selection of things like that to begin with) then she complained that nothing was open (again 1150 at night in a town then generally shuts down at 6) if it's for a family member's birthday party then obviously she had warning. When you shop last minute you get what you get. Then when she was finally settled on balloons (boring latex ones but she asked if I could tie them in a way where it looked like the numbers 95 and I said yes to avoid another lecture and to get her to go away and pay already.) by which time we've already been closed for 10 minutes. Instead she decides to do her grocery shopping which I couldn't care less since it'll take time to get her stupid balloons done and we can't kick her out before. But after I finish tying those off we give the 'we are closed please haul your ass up here and pay for your shit' announcement (but ya know, all politely worded) she ignored it. So a few minutes later we gave her yet another 'closed get up here' announcement. We eventually had to get one of the stockers to kick her to the till (since once we log out of the till we can't log back on until the morning) meanwhile the floor guy can't clean because it's a slipping hazard with customers (we have none slip shoes).

Then she has the nerve to say we were impolite and this is the worst customer service she has ever had blah blah blah.

Personally lady, the fact we let you continue to shop instead of kicking you out after making you pay for the balloons at close, the fact that we used the PA to give a general we are now closed please blah blah blah statement instead of say informing you that we're closed and giving you the option of paying or fucking off...

Considering we are within our rights to make you wait outside after close so long as you get your balloons.

Pretty sure we could have been far more rude then we were.
Working...
