I hope that's a phone in your pocket making those noises at me. 'Cause if it's your willy I'll have to kick it.I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

That too. Being able to lose the weight of a book and a separate MP3 player has also lessened my ongoing back issues, plus I get less of an ache in my wrist/elbow from holding my little smart-phone than I did holding the weight of even a paperback book.Quoth Seanette View PostOne of my major reasons to have a smartphone. Having my entire music collection in my pocket is also nice.

I am the same way - I still have my first gen Droid, what 8 years old? My new phone is a year old ... a Kyocera Brigadier, in a case with the super whamadyne screen protector. Oddly, I also have a waterproof pouch for it [got it so I could take my phone with me on the boat for parasailing without having to worry about accidentally dropping it in the water. The phone in the pouch floats =)]Quoth Crossbow View PostIf you're not prepared to spend a few days without your phone, KEEP A SPARE ON HAND!
This isn't a hard concept to understand. Hell, I don't need my phone 24/7 (despite what Mrs. Crossbow says...) and even I still have my last smartphone and can reactivate it if I need to.
Of course, if you suggested that, the response would probably be "But that one is so OLD!"
Guess it sucks to be her.
I wish they would make the old Nokia immortal phones that would work on the red checkmark system. I did have one as a burn phone before the house fire [burn phone snork snork] and they were wonderfully hardy.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

Am I some weird outlier? I've never had a phone die, I've just upgraded when bored. All but one of my former phones are still serviceable, and the one that isn't has a fault that was once covered under warranty but it didn't cause enough of a problem for me to worry about.
I must be Cellphone Georg. This was one of those times where my mouth says "have a nice day" but my brain says "go step on a Lego". - RegisterAce

Same. I'm not even that careful with my phones. I mean, they've been dropped occasionally, maybe sat on, stuff like that. I put a case on, but not a screen protector. I haven't had any break, or the battery die or anything. I don't think I use it as heavily as some people. I don't do social media, so I use it for directions, if I'm stuck waiting I'll read, taking pictures of my cat.Quoth RealUnimportant View PostAm I some weird outlier? Frog or smurf?Quoth Jetfire View PostBut to keep my Ingress streak alive ...“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

That reminds me when they were just coming out with waterproof cases and travel pouches for phones, this one kid I knew on eBay was advertising "waterproof" pouches for $5 a pop, which was more reasonable than the $20 other people were charging. Turned out he was sending out generic plastic candy baggies and people were none the wiser until one guy did a comparison, realized he'd been had and kicked up a fuss.Quoth AccountingDrone View PostOddly, I also have a waterproof pouch for it [got it so I could take my phone with me on the boat for parasailing without having to worry about accidentally dropping it in the water. Funny enough, I used a Ziplock down the line and found it did the job pretty well at the beach!

If you are than I am, too. Turtleguy always gets the upgraded phone, because he actually needs the map function in order to do his job. His last phone died, but it was because the cat knocked it on the floor and broke the plug so he couldn't recharge it, and it was about 5 years old anyway. When he got the upgraded phone I got his phonosaurus that only makes calls and texts in a very slow, ponderous fashion, but it works just fine for me. I like to carry books in my purse for both entertainment purposes and because my purse is large and heavy and makes a good weapon.Quoth RealUnimportant View PostAm I some weird outlier? What the ever loving flock did people do before they had cell phones? Tin can and string?
Oh yeah, we had pagers that were around 20 or 30 per month just to have the service. I think I recall half my coworkers walking around with those cool (at the time) Motorola pagers that came in several colors (I think I had asked Mom to find one in the cool transparent green that would go with my favorite trench coat but I ended up with a black one, but I digress.)
Tell Miss Princess to go get a pager. I think they're still around now.

Awesome! I get sick after about 100 days and lose my streak. Luckily I don't need that for my two Onyx medals to get L16. Just need ~10M worth of AP.Quoth Jetfire View PostSmurf with an almost 800 day hacking streak going.

I nearly lost my streak on vacation in Scotland 2 summers ago. Luckily I had gone to the Casino around Midnight and gotten a hack there. The next day we drove out into the highlands, finally stopping in Inverness for the night, but the hotspot we were using just would not get a connection. I went walking downtown Inverness around 11PM that night and managed to get a connection and a hack done with minutes to spare.Quoth Nunavut Pants View PostAwesome! I'm currently L14 with more than enough badges; I just need 3M AP to hit 15, and then the push onward to 16 for the 'win'.
