Why the heck anyone would *want* to use female condoms instead of the male ones is beyond me. For one, they're supposedly a hassle to insert properly and secondly, they're less effective than the male variety anyway.
You're just going to have to trust me on this one.

When I was voluteering in a hiv education campaign, one of the sex educators told me that those prostitutes who work out on the streets tend to use them. Their (mostly drunk) clients would not notice and the girls would at least have some protection.

I've never seen an actual female condom but from what I hear they are more trouble than what they are worth.

I'm still waiting for birth control pills for men.

Okay, I think I speak for all guys everywhere when I say: Aw HELL no. We constantly produce the stuff, it's not sitting around being dolled out one sperm a month, and I really doubt there's a way to shut the factory down without some major problems. Even a vasectomy doesn't stop production, it just blocks the delivery route. Now, don't get me wrong, Trojan Man is a welcome guest at my parties, but I'd rather not end up with permanent damage when there's other options perfectly viable.

And most forms of birth control don't come risk-free for women, either.

Let me see, weight gain, depression, unusual periods, hair loss, some birth control like the shot can mess up a woman's entire body and it can be months before she can have children again after ending the shot, osteoperosis, blood cots, stroke...

            Want me to go on?

There are certain advantages... you know... um... theoretically speaking.

As far as birth control for men goes, it would be okay, but it still leaves the problem of STD's. Which brings me to...

Condom pants -- the ultimate combination of protection and spontaneity. It was an idea dreamt up by a group of us one night over lots of beer... and I still think we were just ahead of our time, despite what Trojan said.

                Oh hell YES.

Current studies in the field are using artificial testosterone through the use of an implant and a shot.

While female birth control focuses primarily on fooling the body into not releasing an egg, the male birth control is now focusing on shutting down production all together.

Sperm production is triggered by testosterone in the blood but it's a very narrow window of testosterone that triggers it. Too high or too low, and we stop making it. The research is using artificial testosterone injected into the blood and through the use of an implant to raise the testosterone in the blood to beyond that which starts sperm production, yet not high enough to affect any of the body's other functions.

There were some studies in Britain that showed males on this system have been shooting blanks because there is no sperm being produced. It's still being tested, and hopefully will be tested in the states soon, but like with female BC, you'd need to see a specialist to determine what dosage would be correct.

Best part? As soon as they get off the system they become fertile again.

I'd sign up to be a part of the study for free.

                  Well, there's always abstinence.

Last I heard, nobody ever died from that.

I... Have NEVER had to buy condoms.

But I think that with the way things are going with my girlfriend I will have to soon.

The problem is that I'm kinda friends with the people at the local Gas Station, and the woman who's usually there when I come in is this nice middle eastern lady who's always very nice. It would almost be like buying condoms from my MOM.

But I don't know, my girlfriend is SO not wanting to get pregnant, she wants me in a condom, and her on the pill before we do anything.

*Snicker* My ex-hubby and a friend of his were in a store once and the buddy was buying condoms. The Buddy waits until they were putting their purchases on the belt, wraps his arm around my hubby, and purrs to the cashier "Do you sell male-to-male condoms?" Hubby bolts, friend dies laughing.

I can't do the pill. The hormones put me seriously out of balance, and I'm a moody bitch 24/7.

There is a system that they've been using in Germany for years that's an intrauterine implant that releases a minimal dose of hormones, lasts for about 5 years, and has the "unfortunate" side effect of reducing or stopping periods altogether. They just recently started advertising something similar in the US, but they have some requirement that you have had a child to get it. I don't know what that's about, but I've been considering a trip to Germany for the last few years.

Fun Fact: women are starting to have issues with anemia later in life from bleeding too much from periods
Fun Fact: there is no reason to stop taking the pill for that one week when you're supposed to have your period... there is absolutely no harm in not bleeding

My mother bought me condoms. I remember her once saying, "You'd be so much better off if you got laid regularly."

I think if my mother actually bought me a condom, let ALONE telling me I would be 'much better off' if I were getting laid... I would never have sex...

They have that here in the UK too - contraceptive implant and contraceptive injection. I think the implants last about 3 years and the injection 3 months each time. I believe both have possible side effects similar to the pill though - mood swings, weight gain, etc

Edit: Oh sorry just re-read, you're after IUD. Well yup we have those too. The implant I mentioned above is one that goes in your arm. You don't have had to had a baby for any of these and of course they're free
