Some dudes rolled through the checkout today, and my cashier noticed that the six-pack of fresh hamburger patties they were purchasing were ringing in...for $1.14. Yep, they slapped some other price sticker over the correct one in a poor attempt at a scam, but they did it in an order what was less than five dollars total. Did they honestly expect that to work?

Not sure why they thought it would work . . . but still they try, as cashiers generally pay attention to stuff like that.

Also, if we see you doing this,we WILL call police and have you escorted out in shiny silver handcuffs.

That scenario happened about 2 weeks ago . . . me and MeMaw were run out of the breakroom (while we were going through weekly signs that came for the Wed. ad and I was checking mine to see what I needed to have made) so that the officers and suspect could handle the paperwork in peace.

We have cameras in our store . . . and they cover not only the front end but also every aisle including the meat department along the back wall of the sales area. So the "you can't prove it's me" argument doesn't wash . . . we have the video and we WILL use it.

My current store manager (aka Larry the Cable Guy) doesn't dick around.

Once, in my first few months as a cashier, I discovered that a customer had peeled the barcode sticker off a plastic baby bottle (about $1) and stuck it on a can of Similac (about $20). Without saying a word, I just peeled it off right in front of them and rang up the correct price.

It was one of the most satisfying moments I've ever had working at any job.
