Ah, I can't stand that public hate shit. It hurts me, kinda, when I hear stuff, even if it's not about any "group" I belong to. The violation of person-to-person human respect is allowed most of the time. And we are afraid to speak up and defend ourselves sometimes in the customer service industry. One rageful, self-righteous, prejudiced bastard has the potential to break us (professionally), and we know that. The Home Office In The Sky doesn't allow us to be ourselves without a bit of fear now and then. We all know that SCs make shit up in order to get their way, or just to make us miserable. Too often, they are justified in their lies because they are compensated in some way for it by our own employers.
I can't fault Anoki for NOT speaking up and being defensive. Sometimes the confrontation (sadly) is not worth the consequences. We all want to train our SCs in the Way of Proper Human Behaviour, but some people are just too ignorant to listen, much less change.
I am very proud of Anoki, though. That reaction showed a strength of character that the Nazi Slime Customer obviously didn't have.

As I started to read the last one, guess what song started up on my Dead Kennedys CD?
      Night Of The Living Rednecks.

It's a live improvisation story about these dumbass homophobic rich kids who try to beat up the singer of DK, Jello Biafra.

Your last story made me feel sick. I don't understand how people can be so hateful.
Simple, we're dealing with humanity here.

Oh, I love people who complain because I don't know the answer to their question because it has little to no relevance to my job. If you need the phone number for another business, look it up in the phone book. I'm not directory assistance. If you need directions to some place that is not familiar to me, I'm going to refer you to the maps. I'm not Rand McNally or Mapquest. If I tell you I don't know where it is, I really mean that I'm not familiar with the best route to get there or how far from here it is. I don't necessarily keep track of everything written in the local newspaper, only the stuff that interests me. So, I don't have a handy dandy Community Calendar of Events tucked away in my brain. I may not always know the exact dates and times of that big street festival you wanted to visit.

Oh, and the opinions on how everyone should live....... I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!!!!! I have my own life to live, and I'm living it. Get one of your own. Yes, I am a white heterosexual male and proud to be, but I certainly don't agree with the old-fashioned bigotry and double standards of the typical American redneck hillbilly. I do have homosexual friends and co-workers, and I don't care to hear others putting them down for their differences. I have friends across all races, religions, and other groups, and the same rules apply there, too.

As for the gay pride thing, I don't get it at all - unless I can hold a white straight girl parade, then I don't understand why there's got to be a gay parade
We wouldn't be able to hold a Male Pride parade either, despite the existence of Female Pride parades. Fact o' life. Seeing as I can't have a Male Pride parade, I'll setting for marching in the Gay Pride parade. Same thing when you think about it, just with brighter colors and more feathers.

And c-nd-ms. Don't forget about those.
But I can totally understand how pride parades aren't everyones cup o' tea for various reasons. I can understand how gays aren't either.

I just get freaked when hate seems to be someones beverage of choice.

Tea is really better for you anyway.

You have a right to your opinion. But please about face, walk to the door, and keep it OUT THERE.
Right. In the US, everyone has the right to their opinion, but you also have the right to keep it to yourself!

unless I can hold a white straight girl parade, then I don't understand why there's got to be a gay parade (just try holding a white pride parade - not a "white's are superior thing" - just a celebration of white cultures - I highly doubt that would go over well).
Would you settle for the Tartan Day Parade in NYC? It's got Sir Sean Connery (ususally) and other men in kilts! Yummy! http://www.scotland.gov.uk/News/News-Extras/68/Q/Zoom/80

And then there's always the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Anyone that asks me for directions I usually say "go ask mapquest, I'm not good w/ directions".

As for the gay pride thing, I don't get it at all - unless I can hold a white straight girl parade, then I don't understand why there's got to be a gay parade (just try holding a white pride parade - not a "white's are superior thing" - just a celebration of white cultures - I highly doubt that would go over well)..... anyway though, they had NO right to say those things to you. If you think them, well we're in a free country, you're entitled to your opinions - HOWEVER, I'd be cautious of sharing those opinions with complete strangers - no matter what the opinion is. If you were a fan of the gay parade and you go traipsing through a store yelling "all the straight people should die - gay pride!", that's hate speech and completely out of line too - and you have NO idea who else is in the store - like that piece of garbage you had to deal with..... If I was too chicken to say anything to this awful excuse for a human being (if I was in your place) I would at least have given him some pretty vicious glares at the first comment and if I could muster up the courage, I would have refused to serve him - perhaps just walk off the register and tell my boss the customer was hostile and threatening (gas them all????).

Kudos & cookies to you for keeping your cool. I imagine in reality I probably would have just started crying (and I'm not even gay!)- I just can't stand people like that.
I thought the Irish held a straight white people parade in NYC! *runs*

Well, I guess it's because white, straight people don't have as much negativity and prejudice levelled against them, so a 'pride' parade is to say 'we're here and have nothing to be ashamed of, no matter what society says' and historically straight white people haven't really needed that kind of thing.

gay, bi, straight, bent; i don't see how it's his business-that's personal information and therefore not within his right to know. however, we all know that sc's have their own 'special' set of rules, so nothing about a worker is off limits.

for once, i'd love to call them on their level of ignorance and narrowmindedness and embarrass them as they deserve it, but being a more civil and mannerly person (to a degree, my best weapon is still the 'stink eye of doom'), i don't do it to their face; we save that for when they're gone. if their behavior is bad enough, the person in charge can actually 'fire' them, and we love that-the loss of one bad person doesn't hurt us in the least, and gives a reminder that there are some boundaries that were meant to be left alone.

Wow, that last guy just went completely insane didn't he? I'm bi myself, and I understand that some people have problems with that for various reasons but that is just beyond the pale.

Getting past the mental disorder...I am a bi Catholic Socialist. I have very strong opinions on most subjects. But I can't imagine going on a rant about any controversial topics (sexuality, religion, politics, whatever) to a waitress, cashier, or what have you. I've had to listen to said rants from customers (mostly over the phone but still) and it really stinks...you don't really want to disagree or get into a debate, but if you don't then you feel uncomfortable for not sticking up for your beliefs. If you do, they get mad usually.

I can't imagine putting someone else in that powerless situation even though I'm pretty well convinced that I am completely right on those subjects and everyone else is wrong
