  • Customer made someone cry (language)

This didn't happen at my store. It happened at the large beauty shop chain that is in malls all over the US. I was getting my hair done with my mom and there was a guy in the chair next to me getting a hair cut. The guy had come in with hair down to his shoulders and told the beautician "Cut it all off!" Ok...no problem. She finishes one time and asks the guy what he thinks. He looks in the mirror and says "Cut it shorter!" he repeats this process SEVERAL times. FINALLY the beautician finishes and he peers into the mirror again.

Him: *peering into the mirror* I don't like what you did around my ears!
    Her: What's wrong?
Him: *pointing and turning* See? There's all this hair above my left ear, but non around my right!
    Her: It's fine, sir!
Him: NO IT'S NOT! YOU MADE ME LOOK LIKE SHIT!

Then he stands up to pay and yells "SHE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL!"

The lady just stood there. We were all shocked, and there were children in the shop too. After he left she started to cry. I and the other beauticians tried to comfort her and it all turned into a "Customers Suck" story-telling fest, which did make her laugh a bit...but that guy was WAY out of line! I hate customers who abuse people like that.

Were I the beautician, at the first "Cut it all off!" I would've broken out the buzz cutters and razor and given him a baby-smooth shave.

I feel bad for hairdressers, because I think the majority of the time they never make anyone happy. I've gotten bad haircuts, but I would never embarass the poor hairdresser, because,

        1) I should have done a better job telling her what I want
        2) It's fucking hair. It'll grow back!

When I go to a hairdresser I make it very clear what I want, and if they get it wrong, I complain, but politely.

This does not seem like rocket science to me. If you cannoy communicate your desires effectively don't be shocked when things don't look how you want.

I'm lucky with my hairdresser, all I have to tell her is "The Usual" which is just simple chunky layers, or "Surprise Me" and let her do her own thing. All I care is that I don't look like a horses ass, and I don't have to spend hours getting it to look decent in the morning.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

For completely different hairdos, I either take a picture with to say "I want something like this", or I point at someone with a hairstyle and say "I want that".
But normally I just say "I'm here for a trim. Make me look pretty. Not too much off, but go wild"
And we have fun and I have a different look for a while.

Yeah, I think I have to agree on this one. If someone says "Cut it all off" then I would have used the buzz cutters on him. I can't imagine what life was like when he decided to keep it long but went for the usual trim. "You f***ing cut it too short!" or "One shoulder has more hair on it than the other!" What a prick!

"Cut it all off", to me, means a Number 1 all over. It would have served him right.

My hairdresser makes me happy every time I go. She is very talented and makes me look nice.

Always use a book to show pictures of what you want. Most shops have books of styles with decent pictures and a broad selection. This is the most effective way to get the exact hair cut that you want. If you can't communicate the type of style that you want for yourself, then you get a crappy haircut. It's as simple as that.

I think I've gotten my hair cut professionally maybe three times in my life. I do my own trims, which isn't terribly difficult when your hair hangs to your waist.

However, of those three times, one of the people did it badly. I don't know how much more specific you have to be than, "I just want a trim, no more than an inch or two." The daft lady cut at least 5 inches off and I was young enough (last week of high school) that I didn't say anything. But I was really upset about it for a while because I really like my hair long.
