I just got back from vacation, alas, even vacation isn't free from SCs . . . (granted, I wasn't the one behind the counter).
One particular SC sticks out in my mind. She's an older (and larger) woman and she uses a cane to walk. She's with a young boy, probably about 10 or so. I'm really hoping she's his grandmother and he doesn't have to spend full time with her.
My husband and I stepped into a burger bar and was waiting for the boy to make his order. The woman was busy at the jukebox, feeding it money and picking out songs. The boy makes his order and walks over to get his drink from the fountain machine. That's when the woman started bitching about how the jukebox wasn't working. The lovely young lady behind the counter, who was listening to the woman's rants, said "oh! it must be the volume, it probably got turned down." The volume for the machine is located on the large plug-in. The girl continues, "there's a garbage can that sometimes gets knocked against it and turns down the machine." She turns the volume back up and the machine works fine. The artist playing was Shania Twain.
Woman, again, starts in on pleasant girl. Griping about this and that about how the machine should work and what if this had happened and no one said anything about it (just a completely empty argument) and what was the girl going to do about it. The girl tried replying on how they don't own the machine and there's really nothing that can be done about it. The machine is working now, all is well with the world.
Well, not with this woman's world.
And the grand total that she was freaking out over?
25¢. A damn quarter.
She was laying into this girl over a damn quarter. I just about reached into my purse, threw the quarter on the ground and told the woman to get her freaking refund.
Later on, after we made our order and sat down (just a few tables from the evil woman and the boy - it was a small restaurant) the girl approaches the woman, puts the quarter on the woman's table (I imagine the girl probably gave her an apology as well).
A little bit later, their food comes and is served to her by a different, young girl. Immediately, the woman starts in on her and grumbles "this is cold, what are you going to do about it?"
I highly doubt its cold, since the food is made right after its ordered and we're only talking burgers and fries. The girl offers to go and reheat it back up, in which she does.
Our food comes and, lo and behold, it's not cold! The fries weren't even underdone (which is usually the case with most places serving fries in my opinion, but I could really care less).
All in all, the poor little boy didn't say a whole word during their meal. And we left the girls a tip as well (although, thinking back now, I should have left them the web address to this website - business cards or the like would probably help too).
