Well, yeah, but... but... it's Key West. I have yet to hear bad words about that place, other than "Expensive" or "full of freaks". The first is just a No Brainer, and the second just makes me want to go MORE....WHY DO YOU TEMPT WHAT LITTLE FAITH IN HUMANITY I HAVE!?! -- Kalga
And I want a pony for Christmas but neither of us is getting what we want OK! What you are asking is impossible. -- Wicked Lexi

I fail to see the part where "full of freaks" is bad......
But by all means, come down. Make sure you bring a healthy wallet and a healthy liver.
You'll leave with neither.

Figure about $50/day for food, $100/day for alcohol, a moderately sized wad for souvenirs, and like $200/night for a hotel... yep, I'd have to save up, but I'll be getting my first week of paid vacation right around the time I have it all saved, so... well W00T!Quoth Jester View PostI fail to see the part where "full of freaks" is bad......

I just hope you'll still be around so I can snag you for a "Native Guide". Your tab, of course, will be paid as compensation.

You might be overbudgeting slightly. Then again, maybe not, considering your size and (I assume) larger appetite. Also the time of year you come down here will make a difference.
I'll be here till next summer, minimum. RW is here, not sure what her plans are, but she seems to want to stay a while.
Contact either of us if you do head this way.
And compensating me with a bar tab? I like it. (Though your wallet might not.....)

Ummm, there's a Jesstirs bar at my old hometown.Quoth Jester View Post<snip>
You guys DO realize that my comments re Rapscallion's and Jester's were merely hypothetical, right? So I could avoid using names of actual bars, right? And that I was referring to people who talk about bars just down the street, right?<snip>
Any day you're looking down at the dirt instead of up at the dirt is a good day.

As a Canadian, I can shed some light on the whole issue of shopping trips across the border.
Right now, the dollar is nearly at par, but more than that, we pay WAY more taxes up here than in the U.S. Taxes are at 14% (provincial and Federal) here in Ontario. Across the border in New York state it's usually just a little more than HALF that, plus U.S. goods seem to be priced, on average, a little cheaper than ours. I believe we have higher taxes here on alcohol here as well, but I'd have to check that.
The thing is though that the percentages don't really make the trip worthwhile unless you are buying enough goods to make it worth your while.

Price for a forty pounder south of the border is half what we pay in Ontario. Even Canadian beer is cheaper in the US.Quoth CrazedClerk View PostI believe we have higher taxes here on alcohol here as well, but I'd have to check thatThere's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

Holy crap! Sales tax is 5% in Maryland, and some things are tax-free. I can't imagine paying 14%!Quoth CrazedClerk View PostTaxes are at 14% (provincial and Federal) here in Ontario.

Yep, I'm both a gourmet and a gourmand, as well as extremely hard to get drunk. Of course, I was also planning without taking into account you know all the local places that don't charge Arm-&-Leg Tourist prices. Besides, I always find it easier to over-budget and have something left over at the end of the trip.Quoth Jester View PostYou might be overbudgeting slightly. On the note of time-of-year... what's the best time, money-wise to head down there that's not in hurricane season?...WHY DO YOU TEMPT WHAT LITTLE FAITH IN HUMANITY I HAVE!?! -- Kalga

It's a glove with a hard shell over the knuckles and the back of the hand and forearm with firm support padding underneath. Technically it's to protect you from blows and debris, but it also has the same effect as brass knuckles when you hit someone wearing one.Quoth Nutjob R/T View PostRiot glove?
Basically, it's a modern version of a gauntlet.Last edited by JustADude; 09-16-2007, 10:36 AM....WHY DO YOU TEMPT WHAT LITTLE FAITH IN HUMANITY I HAVE!?! -- Kalga
