Taking the situation at face value, and not supposing any underlying situations....that story actually brought a tear to my eye.

If I ever talked to my Mom like that . . .Quoth bigjimaz View PostIf I would have talked to my father like that...
1. I wouldn't need the room at the hotel because I would be in the hospital.
2. I wouldn't make it to my sisters the next day because they would still be trying to remove my father's impacted shoe from my nether region.
The next thing ya'll be seeing about me online will be my OBITUARY.
Yes, she does get on my nerves at times . . . . we're under the same roof day in and day out . . . but she's still MOM and that's it (according to her.)
It's hard raising parents nowadays

I'm with you. I stopped talking to my dad when I was 15 because of the crap he put my family though. It wasn't until I was 19 that I even spoke to him again. I saw him for the first time at my sister's graduation a few months later. I still refuse to see him. And even if I do see him eventually, I'll still never forgive him. God only knows what's gone on with their family.Quoth Misanthropical View PostIf you met my parents, you would swear they were the sweetest, most kind people to walk the earth. However, they are not, they are manipulative, compulsive liars.
I haven't spoke to either one in years, because of how they were and how they are, but to someone who doesn't know the whole truth, I would look like the evil one.
If I did agree to met with them, they probably would act all excited, thinking that I have memory loss on how they really are.
So, I would probably act the guy in OP, simply because I have no respect for either of my parents, they lost it a long time ago.

This is heartbreaking, and makes me embarrassed to be from the same state as he is.
And I can't believe someone has actually seen a 20-year-old HIT his grandmother in the face. These poor parents probably just want respect and love from their children, and this is what they get.

I know just what you mean, I have parents that seem quite nice on the surface. It's the underlying crap they pulled when I was a child that causes problems now. The stuff "outsiders" don't see.Quoth Misanthropical View PostIf you met my parents, you would swear they were the sweetest, most kind people to walk the earth. At the same time? I'd have paid for my own room to begin with, and it sounds (from the OP) as if this turd was EXPECTING his father to pay for it from the beginning. Then he acted like a jerk about it, not because his father had maybe said he'd pay for it, and then reneiged (sp), but because he wouldn't have come visit any other way. He doesn't like to pay for his own way, and it seems as if Mom and Dad have paid his way before, and he just expects it.
I have a friend, who is middle child of three, and her and her older brother are relatively well adjusted, basically nice kids. I've met their mom, and while, like most mom's, she has her moments, in general, she's a pretty good person. According to my friend and her brother, I'm correct in my assessment. Their youngest sister is a complete asshat. No one can figure out why. Been like that since she was a tiny kid, and never grew out of it. She's just nuts, and nothing anyone has ever done has helped her remove her head from her sphincter.

Boy, you just made me feel loads better as the first born of my family.
I have a little sister who just turned four and I pretty much model every aspect of my life based on how I want her to think of her favorite brother when she gets older. Among them is how I treat my family.
I fear for any children these two may have. Or at the very least hope he does have children and that they stick him in a retirement home where they feed him tons of prune juice but never answer his call bell.

Jeez! IF I ever were to talk to my father like that I'd be slapped so hard my head would come off...lol.
That takes a lot of nerve to talk to somebody's father like that without said father backhanding them a good one.

i don't speak to my parents like that when i'm pissed at them, and this was just 'normal' for this guy.
apparently, 'turd' needs to start fronting his own way through life, instead of being a worthless, ungrateful leech.

Some people really need to be aborted at birth...
I doubt it's a parenting flaw, as they seem nice people and if the daughter is nice then it'll confirm this.

This posting just makes me angry. I don't know how this "kid" was raised and how he turned out the way he did, but this is just ridiculous. I feel for these parents and wish they had the backbone to kick him to the curb. That type of anguish they don't need.
And while I agree with others that hopefully sis is nice to her parents, I hope she isn't a sweet little pushover like them and will kick (well-deserved and to sensitive areas) that jerk down a few notches.

The turd was easily in his late 30's, possibly early 40's. He was just a big turd, thats all I can call him.
I really wanted to say something to the idiot, but didn't want to meddle. Thats why I hope the daughter is normal, and appreciates the parents. I see my parents daily, I am 25 and this has been a fact since birth, I hate arguing with them. But I would never treat them like dirt, I never swore at them or tried to physically hurt them in anyway, just would never happen.

Well, one can be *too* sweet to their children and there lies the end result.
Heh, I love my Dad, but he also instilled a healthy amount of fear/respect into us kids when we were growing up.

That always bothers me when grown children are such dicks to their parents. It bothers me a lot. Had a woman one time in tears at my store begging me to do an exchange because she was terrified of her grown son, scared to death to go back home without the newer item. I've seen a twenty-something brutedouche actually hit his grandmother in front of me because she didn't know what type of videogame he was talking about (my ex-marine sniper manager had to try real hard not to beat the crap out of the guy, told him to leave and never come back)
It's always the sweet parents too...its really heartbreaking.
