Did Square resign with Sony? The delay of the PS3 release Square from their previous contract, and I had not heard of a new contract. I admittedly have not had time to pay close attention, but it would seem silly of them to resign when they could have gone multi-platform.

No. There was a rumor that Square-Enix was going to make the next FF multi-platform, but there has since been an official release stating that FFXIII will be a PS3 game. There are two spin-offs (or side storys, depending on the article) planned that will likely be multi-platform, though.
