Idiots that don't understand video game values

We currently have:

2 gameboy advance SPs
PS2
XBox

My atari 2600 died, I was sad, and hubby gave his sister his old PS1, and is eyeballing the PS3 when it comes out

The way I was is not really something to aspire to...for me video games are like crack....I was addicted

I got VERY good at finishing these games too...one batch of five I got in the mail I completely finished in two days...if the game had an ending I'd get there within 1-3 hours(remember back then I was working on a farm for 12-14 hours a day too)...it got so it wasn't even fun anymore but I was obsessed

Now I think about it...the way I had things set up I think I paid less for the games than I did for the seven video games magazines I subscribed to every month(at about $5 each per month) and I bought the first issue of about 20 others but even then I saved those mags and in the last couple of years I sold them online for an average of $15 each

Go to a site that has video game covers and look at them...chances are you are looking at some of the mags I sold the person running the site..I'd put mine up on eBay but I also contacted the guys running those sites so they knew my auctions were coming up(a little competition never hurt anyone..especially me)

Does anyone else have a Virtual Boy? My brother and I have one, but you can't play the dumb thing for more than 15 mins with out a)getting a massive headache, or b)the thing overheats and freezes.

I bet I had a video game "system" none of you have even heard of

It was a mechanical plastic device that was shaped like a TV set...It had a swinging arm inside with a tiny light on the end of it with two dials on both sides that moved real paddles up and down...yes it was perhaps one of the very first pongs ever made

You turned it on and the arm with the light would swing back and forth and if you stopped it with a paddle it would swing back to the other side and it would even automatically keep score

It used two D batteries and had a handle on the top for easier carrying(it was about the size of a 13 inch TV)

It was so unusual that when I tried to sell it even most video game collectors had never heard of it...I still got over $100 for it but I think due to it's rarity I might of gotten much more if only more people had known it was available

I trade my games in constantly, and I can never remember a time when I felt like I was getting ripped off. As far as I was concerned, if four old games I don't want equal one used game I do want, that can't be a bad thing! I have seen SC's in the gaming store, though, usually upset about the clerk's irrational refusal to pay them $49.99 for Madden '02. It's hard to resist the temptation to tap them on the shoulder and say, "Excuse me, what year is that printed on your game? And what year is it now? Take your dollar and get out of my way. I'm a *paying* customer."

I have the same crap at the phone store. These people who bought a $50 phone in 1999 and use it until it dies of old age. Then they finally decide to renew and get a new phone, and can't believe that I won't offer them a trade-in. We don't want your old crappy dual-band behemoth of a phone. I have a new trick now. I just say, "We can't do trade-ins here, but let's see what you can get for that phone!" Then I pull up ripmobile.com, plug in their phone, and cheerily inform them that ripmobile will offer them $3.25 for it. Even better is when their phone isn't even on the list, and I can read them the little blurb that says if your phone isn't listed they don't want it, but they will recycle any phone you send them.

There's this venue in town that a couple of times a year they get a bunch of people together to sell specific thing very cheaply

The last one they had...had tennis shoe...expensive perfumes...leather coats...computer equipment annnd among other things these video games that had the games in the controllers

They came three different kinds of controllers in a package(racing controller, gun, and regular controller)...you've seen those in Walmart with about 25 games and costing $20 or so right? This set up had...get ready for this...76000 games...good games too like Supermario bros and other old famous Nintendo games

I bought two of the packages for $40 each and gave them to my brother for his kids and he tells me his kids loved them....they really did have thousands of games(lots of variations of the same games of course but still they didn't get to play all the games before breaking all the controllers by fighting over them)

If anyone knows what I'm talking about or where I can get more please let me know...he read off all the information on the box to me so I could try to Google and find more but the boxes had virtually no manufacturer's info on them

It was three controllers in a box that just plug directly into the TV and the games are built into the controllers and they supposedly have 76000 games that are Nintendo quality graphicswise...that's all the information I have to go on

They're basically a controller with SNES-equivolent (or NES, or Genesis, or others or any combination thereof) hardware in them, using ROMs to play the games. They're inlicensed and illegal. It's why they have no webpage - they'll change names and owners frequently. Odds are they'll be shut down soon and a new store will open selling the same things.

I've got a virtual boy floating around somewhere. From what I remember of them, the two things that really killed them were one, the red coloring. one of the early games was wireframe, and you had no depth perception due to the color. The other was that yes, it would give you a headache.

It didn't hurt that nintendo didn't offer any support for it. Left the game "hanging" so to speak.

There are some games for all systems I hang on to. The Final Fantasy series, Zelda, and the few games I know show promise for replayability.

It's going to be interesting to see how the Wii is recived here in the us. The one thing I see going against it is the controller. I suspect, that this is going to alienate (well that and the insane cost) many of their users. That said, if Twilight Princess (the next zelda) comes out on it...I'll need a loan from ditech.

When I trade in a newer game I expect to get around four bucks or so for it - I get store credit because I get more games and the credit goes further than the cash will. I think game rarity also plays a part in how much a trade-in will get you: I was pleasantly surprised, even shocked, when I scored fourteen bucks for a copy of Final Doom (for the PSX). Not bad at all when I had only paid twenty in the first place for it.

I trade in movies all the time so I can get a new or used movie with a little discount. I understand that just because I paid 15 dollars for a movie I might only get say 1 dollar for a trade. Get rid of a few movies that I bought because of a cute actor(I buy alot of movies for that reason) that I dont like anymore and get a new movie or tv set.


Any money is better than none or dust.

A kid just came in today with "Oni" for ps2. This game sells for $2.99 online at ebgames.com so I give the kid $1. He looks at me with pure contempt and disgust and says "THANKS!" in a loud sarcastic tone as he slams the game on the counter and takes his money. I wanted to show him my computer monitor with the $2.99 retail price, but instead I just shrugged my shoulders and watched him stomp out.

which is probably why I've never paid full price for games since the Nintendo 8-bit (mind you, I buy systems when they're obsolete...GameCube will soon be obsolete with Wii). I really get into the Dreamcast games, tho...when they work.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who buys too many game systems My very first system was the Sega Genesis.
Right now I have:
1. Sega Genesis.
2. SNES
3. Transparent monochrome gameboy
4. Pokemon Gameboy Colour (i was obsessed with Pokemon what can I say)
5. Gameboy Advance.
6. 2 PS2's
7. Xbox.
8. N64.

mind you, I buy systems when they're obsolete...GameCube will soon be obsolete with Wii)

Hopefully GameCube games / controllers etc. will come down in price before the Wii. Stock up on older gamecube games since they're going to be playable on the Wii.
