  • A few from S apartments (long, ranty)

One of my pet peeves at my job are the ppl who come in NOW when they don't need a place until JULY. On the surface this doesn't seem so bad, but I have no way of knowing what, if anything, will be available, and you can only get a spot on a waiting list if you put down a deposit which you cannot get back after 48 hours. Now the point I try to make to these folks is that if they change their mind, or find somthing better before July, then they will be out that $75-$150, so in the interest of saving that money, CALL BACK LATER, like in JUNE or something!

Had a couple of young guys came in after calling me 5 times asking the same questions only to realize they had already called me. Now during one of these calls you'd THINK they'd ask if I had a 2 bd apt to show them, which I didn't.

SC: "But that's what we came all the way out here for!"

Well, in that case, let me just kick Mrs. X and her 3 kids out for an hour so you can look at their home. In fact, let's have them tidy up first and while they're waiting for you to finish your tour they can stand in the parking lot and wax your car! Dolts. These two also got pissy with me because "all utilities included" does not mean free cable and high-speed internet. The one guy actually pouted when I told him those were luxuries, not utilities. Some places near the university offer those things, but since you profess wanting to be away from that lifestyle, you are, as the professors say, "shit out of luck, Homey".

One nice thing about being a temp is I can slough off the really odd ones to the real employee for when they get back on Monday. It's a cop out, and I really needed it with these two examples:

2 guys want a 3 bdrm- doesn't exist at this property

    They want a 2bd 2ba- we have 2bd 1 ba

They want a 1 month lease- we do 6 month minimum

They want to know if they can rent a 2x1 for 6 months and get a 1x1 for 1 month for "visitors"

WTF?!?! First of all these places are unfurnished, so what are your visitors bringing with them, 2 suitcases, a light carry-on, and a SOFA? Point #2- although coupons do exist for apartments I have yet to see one that says some thing like "Rent a 2x1 for 6 months and get a 1x1 for just $1!! That would be used car lots that do that, not apartment complexes. The market isn't that bad. Yet.

Conclusion: Call P on Monday. Goodbye.

Phone call: "Good afternoon, S apts, how can I help you?"

    SC: "DO YOU ACCEPT FELONS?"

No, we usually prefer check or money order, most places don't really barter in convicts anymore, not even in Texas. Call P on Monday. Goodbye.

Last but not least, not sucky but noteworthy anyway:

VERY Old Lady- She's about 2,000 years old and uses a walker but I don't know why, this lady could outboogie me on any day of the week. She has a think eastern European accent, and is an absolute doll. She stopped in for this conversation:

    Me: "Hi! Whatcha need, Ma'am?"

    OL: "Is today Thursday?"

    Me: "Nope. Saturday. All day."

OL: (leaning into desk so she was about 4" from my face "I'm sorry dear, I got Saturday and Thursday mixed up. Thursday was 2 days ago! (whispering) My brain doesn't work anymore, I get confused and I thought I should check, just to be safe. Have a nice Easter, Dear!"

Me: "You too, Ma'am! And Ma'am, if it's any consolation, I know exactly how you feel"

That's all I got this time, but Monday I'm doing a full shift, so I'm sure I'll have more.

How come I have never asked any of these dumb questions?? lol If you get free cable, they will mention "untilities, and cable tv/internet included!"...retards...

I have also never expected to get on a waiting list for free, per se, but I have never had to either.

Got an idea for the 2 for one apartment people...buy a house with a guest house.

Maybe they were just looking for a seperate party pad? Or they're a couple of serial killers and they need a temporary place to cut up and store a body... Weirder things happen in apartment complexes.

I'm looking for an apt now but lease isn't up til august first, that being said-I live in a college town and 90% of the lease are signed by may/june and start august 15th-so to prevent having to store my stuff and me for two weeks I'm trying to get it set up now. And pay rent for 2 apts in one month-I hate apt hunting-maybe if I used a cannon.........
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Where I live they do back ground checks on everyone. If someone is convicted of a felony they won't be living here.

If someone who already lives here is convicted of a felony, they are told to leave. If their child who lives in their townhouse is convicted of a felony, they all have to leave.

They also check to see if people make enough money to be able to pay the rent. They don't accept low housing vouchers.

The also check with employers to make sure you actually work where you say you do.

The only things included in the rent are trash and water, the rest you have to pay for.

We have to pay to use the pool and the property manager is very strict about only allowing those who have paid to be there. No one from the neighborhood sneaking in and no one bringing 20 visitors with them either.

Our property manager doesn't play around, which is one of the reasons I love her! She loves me too, because she never gets complaints about my family at all.

We check all that stuff too, but some places, when it comes to felonies, it depends on the felony. A DUI from 5 years ago will probably be okay. If the name check on your credit report comes back with an alias of say Jim "the puppy strangler" Smith, probably not. I just love the ppl who before they even say hi ask me things like "Do you do credit checks, cuz mine is really fucked". When I get a question like that right off the bat, no matter what the policy is I want to say, "Yes, and we also need fingerprint clearance, a blood and tissue sample, and your first born as a holding fee."

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around a 1-month lease. Wouldn't that be called a month-to-month rental?

Month to month rentals get a premium attached to the regular rent, so sometimes you'll get some "clever" fellow that thinks if they ask for a "1 month lease" they can avaoid the month to month premium. Doesn't work.

Oh she sounds like the woman who runs the complex I live in! there are 900+ apartments here, and she knows every one! The management co is very strict about income levels, etc., and will do a credit check. if you don't make enough to qualify, you are told you need a co-signer. Which makes sense; in the area I'm in, average rent for a 1BR is 1K plus...so if you only make 1200 a month, chances are, you can't afford it on your own. I pay almost $1100, and although I make pretty decent money, its still tight some months.

Yeah, when did high speed internet and cable become utiilities? I'd love to find somewhere that they're included in teh rent!

She is also strict about how many people can live in them; if you're a couple in a 1BR, and have a baby, you have to move or go into a 2BR. Our pool too is an extra charge, as are the garages. But if you play by the rules, and don't make trouble, she will bend over backwards for you. She loves me....hehehehe

First day of class my freshman year my professor said, "Who's your daddy?" God I miss that class.
I liked my first day of sociology class (too bad it's not my major, I love that class)... the first day of class the professor says "let's do a little experiment, close your eyes. Now imagine right now a girl were to walk in with a miniskirt, bare shoulder midriff top, and high heels. She walks across the front of the room and sits next to easton in the front row and immediately starts leaning on him during my attempts of restarting the lecture. Now girls, I'd like you all to write down your first thought about this girl and pass your papers up front, guys I want you all to write down your first though about easton and pass your papers up." we all wrote down our thoughts passed them up and he said "ok, now I'm willing to bet all but 1 or 2 of the girls papers will say they thought the girl was either a slut or a skank and all but 1 or 2 of the guys will think that easton is a lucky son of a bitch" (and he was right)
Yup, and that was a tame class.

Yeah, we have a limit on how many people can be in a townhouse too, depending on how many bedrooms there are. Also, the basements can not be used as a bedroom.

There are inspections every year to make sure the rules are being followed.

A bit off-topic this may be, but a few years ago I had some guy whom I'd been chatting with online insist that when apartment complexes advertised "free utilities", it meant that cable was included with this, I just had to ask at the rental office.

Most university housing includes cable/internet in the rent. If that's what they're used to, then asking if it's included isn't that sucky. I'd pout a little too...cable/internet is *^%&* expensive! And I do NOT consider it a luxury, internet access is a necessity! (Cable I can live without, but do not deprive me of my e-mail).
