Its true.. but lets be honest here, she wasn't really trying to listen to reason so I simply put it in a way she could understand to realize there's no reason to be scared over a little star in a circle.

And you're right, the inverted pentacle was brought in the 20th century. Unfortunately, it *has* been picked up due to the media frenzy that followed by stupid little kids that *do* believe that killing kitties in the name of the devil is cool. -eye roll- I remember reading an article about a little satanic scene found in East LA back in the 90s that had the local neighborhood so freaked out that Halloween that year, was essentially BANNED.

Moms wouldn't let their kids go out to pick up candy, houses that were decorated got vandalized....We had like.. two people show up at our annual haunted house. It SUCKED.

When will people learn that stereotypes don't do anythign good?

And I think that there are a lot of people who are quite aware that stereotypes are complete crap; however, the loveable SCs and there xenophobic ilk are much more vocal and memorable. I doubt any of those brain donors will ever bother to learn that stereotyping = BAD.

You want a bit of a mental whiplash? Go check out an older (<1950 probably) graveyard, a large one. You'll find upside pentacles on some of them. It's the symbol for the Women's branch of a large fraternal organization (I want to say Shriners, or maybe for the Elks).
