Hi all,
I've been a lurker for quite some time, but never has anything worth posting. I have a couple of stories, both unrelated.
The first is from my brother, who works in a rock climbing gym. He was helping some customers at the counter when he noticed a mother who had bought her two children in. The eldest (about 9) was up at the top of a wall and his little brother (7ish) was belaying him at the bottom. First of all, this is pretty dangerous as the rules are you have to be 13 before you can belay. Anyway, the mum is just standing there smiling when all of a sudden the kid at the top of the wall unclips himself from his harness whilst hanging at the top of the wall.
Seeing the obvious chance for disaster, my brother rushes to clip on another rope and starts climbing up the wall, all the while yelling for someone to belay him. He gets to the kid and grabs on to him to start taking him down. This is when the kid starts kicking and screaming and punching him. By the way this whole time the mother has just been standing there motionless.
When he gets to the ground safely with the child, the mother confronts him:
Mum: What are you doing! He's autistic!
Bro: That doesn't mean he wont get badly hurt if he falls from up there.
Mum: You don't understand, he's autistic.
At this stage the mum gathers her kids and leaves, continuing to spout "You don't understand" to anyone that tried to talk to her.
This second one comes from my work.
I work for an audio/visual company that mainly gets hired for corporate events and conferences. This involves working in a lot of hotels and of course this leads to lots of questions like "I locked myself out of my room" and "Can you send someone to restock the mini bar" Of course we have to politely explain that we don't actually work for the hotel. I don't mind this, I mean I would probably mistake me for hotel staff as well.
However, I was working this conference and of course there is always a baby somewhere. The mother of this baby approached me and a break in the conference.

SIBL: Can you let me into this room (points) It was open yesterday but now it's locked. I need somewhere to feed.
Me: Actually, I don't work for the hotel, but if you could find one of the banquet staff I'm sure they'd have a key. (This is when she waves me off and starts walking away mid sentence)
SIBL: (Talking to herself) I need somewhere to feed! Where can I feed! (I found the way she kept repeating this a little disturbing)
This is when another nice lady approaches her.
Nice lady: (To baby lady) Excuse me, I don't mind if you use my room.
SIBL: Oh well it's just the yesterday the staff were actually HELPFUL!
She turns around and spits this last word at me. I'm not paid to put up with this, so I left. No matter though, she seemed not to listen and probably had no idea who I was or who I worked for anyway.
Thanks for the vent, I feel much better.
