I was busy putting the customer's money in my drawer when out of the corner of my eye I see that the next customer's order (about five or six greeting cards plus a gift card) was being jammed up against the side of the scanner, smushed between that and the groceries of the person behind her. Any cashier probably knows this scene all too well. The belt is supposed to automatically shut off when it senses items have reached the end, but sometimes that doesn't work, and things start to get smushed before you can quickly snap it off. Well, I hear her say, "Ummmmm...??!" in a snotty tone while she snatched the cards back. I then hear her say to the next customer, "They were getting smashed because she didn't shut it off!" The next customer said something to which she replied, "Well, it's not *YOUR* fault."

Oooops, I guess it's gone now, so sorry.
A good half of them did so to dump their wallet/purse full of change onto the belt to search through it. Then complained when they lost coins. And complained more when they couldn't pick them up because the belt was "too flat". Or complained when the belt was damp from cleaning and now all their money is damp.
