  • Maybe I helped an scammer find a new hobby

This is from years ago at a previous job. But I've decided to turn CS into a confessional of sorts for me.

This customer stole from my former employer by claiming not to receive products and being refunded for them. He would then sell these products on Ebay. For some reason he would include his email in the body of his Ebay listings.

With it being obvious he fancied himself as a business-man I thought I'd help him find some more investment opportunities. I took the email from his Ebay listings and put it on in a few guest books that were known to be harvested by 419 fraudsters harvesting emails. Do you think he enjoyed his new scam-baiting hobby? Am I evil?

I'd suggest you were a catalyst for Karma. That is to say it would have happened, you just made it easier!
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

A "business man" who places e-mail in his eBay listings ... hmmm, that sounds pretty bold to me .... He'd probably get plenty of spam just through that ...

      ---

The employee who did my job before me had thought it a good idea to place our e-mail address in the listings ... this was years ago and we're still getting sh!tloads of spam e-mail (this address is used for nothing else but eBay/Paypal), spam mail alone numbers in the couple hundreds ...

I'd change the e-mail address, but that would require the owner's bank/credit card or bank info for verification and all that ... I doubt he'll giving that up anytime soon.
This area is left blank for a reason.
