  • The Check Declined

Where I work, we have a promotion going on where customers can get gift cards when they bring in their tax refund/stipulation check. Yesterday, a customer brought in one of those checks which I ran through our check machine to make sure it was fine and it declined.

I gave the customer a number she could call and told her that she also had the option of calling her bank since the check declined. She told me that she got the check in the mail the previous day and wouldn't accept that I couldn't accept the check. It got to the point where I had to call the PIC. He came up and I explained the situation and he talked to her and was able to get through to her.

With all the money they've been borrowing are you really surprised?
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

I don't think it bounced, the check was just declined. We have this problem at our service desk sometimes, a lot of the times it's caused by some thing being wrong with the SSN the cust entered, a recent name change or maybe even that the numbers on the checks are printed a little off, and our machine can't read it. Most people can't grasp the concept that if our machine won't read it, no matter how much we "trust" you, we can't cash your check

Purplecat...just a question and if it offends you please report it but... Do you think almost everyone is sucky? Some of the messages you have put up I can see some irk in their but not full blown suckiness.

I must agree with this observation. Sorry. I've also noticed that you like to blame Suckyness on accidental ignorance.

Do you come across anyone who isn't sucky in your job?

I think we're just missing a lot from her stories. There could have been suckiness but since the tales are typically so short it's hard to say for certain.

not sure if there's sucky here. sounds like a normal customer who has had a check declined (unless she screamed and bitched at you for an hour.)

She wouldn't take no for an answer when I informed her that I couldn't accept the check. She told me that she got it the day before she came to the store. She believed that the check should've been accepted. I had to get the PIC to explain why I couldn't accept the check.

I mean, it sounds like her stories are always like this:

"I cooked hot dogs in the microwave and the microwave made them wrinkly. I set the thing right, but I hate wrinkly hot dogs "

Most of the stories seem like the garden variety of suckiness and aren't really anything to get worked up over further other than right after the incident, unless it's noteworthy or a repeating habit.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, though.

Alright, I think we've put it out there, doesn't need to be extended. Though for my part it would really help me Purplecat if you would extend your stories a little bit, with some detail. That way we would see the exact suck. For example, your one sentence of " It got so bad I had to call the PIC" is washed out by your storie, that way we can see how/why she got so bad. And I'm sorry, I hate when people just don't get that you can't do something.

I wasn't aware that there was a specific posting style or criteria involved in being a member of CS.

If you find you don't care for a member's posting style, then put them on ignore or don't read.

I am really getting tired of the latest trend for people to start calling out other members on the board because they don't feel their customer was sucky enough, or the story was exciting enough.

I thought this place was where we can come to vent.
                          That's what purplecat does.

If you don't feel the story merits a comment, then don't comment.
                          It's pretty simple.

Not everyone can be an award winning writer deserving of adoration and war story nominations. They still have a right to vent in their own way.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Frankly, I like Purplecat's posts... short and sweet, with no extra bullshit to rummage through. I enjoy it when people get to the freaking point without boring me to death with their verbal diarrhea (so to speak).

I like these elegant and understated posts too. I've been reading them for years. I see purple cat as someone who sees way more than her share of SCs, has some pretty awful co-workers who act like small children when expected to do their jobs and never loses her cool, even when posting.

                              I know I'll keep reading.
