  • DO YOUR JOB!

Yes, i had a customer tell me that, despite the fact that the problem is out of my control. This woman had no cable, phone and internet service. I checked the outage board and no outage has been reported. This woman gets an attitude and starts yelling at me because her and another woman are without service.
i just told her that it takes up to 4 people to report an outage. she then gets upset stating that her and this other woman are the only two people out there.
ok. she then starts verbally abusing me just because i wouldn't give her an answer on why the service if off. (get this, i am from a DIFFERENT STATE) and she expects me to know why her service is off. she then tells me to do my job. look bitch, i don't know more than you do about this situation. YOU just came onto my freaking line.

here's the kicker, that she already has a TECH COMING OUT tomorrow. she complains about how we keep checking the notes. look, that's all the info we have at this time.

God, this woman was freaking nightmare. its one thing to be upset about the services being out but don't be yelling at me as if i was who turned off her damn service.

Thank god, i had a supervisor take the call. this woman was getting on my last nerve.

Oh, man! I despise that phrase.

Some customers need to learn that THEY don't get to dictate to you what you job is. Your BOSS gets to dictate to you what your job is.

And, from your post, I gather that waving a magic wand to troubleshoot and fix a problem two states over isn't something your boss expects of you. At least I hope not.

You mentioned that she complained about not having phone, internet or cable, (emphasis mine). My bet is she was being so ugly because she couldn't watch television. I worked in this area for a few months, and after dealing with internet and phone customers, let alone cable, I came to the conclusion that this is what people freak out the most about losing.

I feel your pain. That's why I will never work with cable TV again.

"Do your job" is probably without doubt used exclusively by people who are asking you to do something that is NOT your job. Therefore it's an easy out. It's a fantastic opportunity when they say it.

          "Do your job".

<click> Yup, I hung up. I'm off to do my job now. What you wanted isn't my job, so as you suggested, I need to "do my job" and get on with things that ARE my job. Ta ta!!

Heh, it'd probably take me several days to even notice if my phone was out.

Well, my landline, at least; cell phone might take a day or two.

I would never notice if my landline went out... I'd notice if the internet went out almost instantly though (between having 3 roommates all with computers and my computer that has an annoying pop-up every time anyone connects or disconnects off of the internet on my network... oh yeah I'd hear about it quickly).
Cable is another one where the only reason I would notice it going out quickly is if my tv was set to cable rather than aux when I turn it on to watch a movie (though I do occasionaly watch Discovery, History, or Comedy Central so it wouldn't take me that long to notice).
