    phone call from today:

    Me: good afternoon <apartments>

SC: what school district are your apartments located in?

Me: I don't know which district this is, actually, but...

SC: you have GOT to be kidding me!!

Me: I'm sorry ma'am, I'm a temp, I've only been at this property for a couple of days and my only child is not school aged.

SC: well is there anybody in the office who has worked there longer that you could ask? Do you at least have some BASIC information?

Me: Oh sure! I have all the basic apartment information right here! Unfortunately, I'm the only one in the office today, but if you'd like to leave your phone number I'm sure I could find out about the sch...

    SC: (interrupting) Nevermind

Me: ...ool distri- Oh. Well, would you still like the other information?

    SC: *click*

Me: (to the empty office) Well, fuck you too, bitch! Look it up on the fucking internet, you're the parent with the school aged kid, not me!

Later on that day the manager came in to do some paperwork and when I told him about the call, he said, "I'm glad she hung up, I don't want her to live here anyway! She sounded like a prize bitch! If she calls back ask her if she knows what the internet is."

I like him, I hope he requests me a lot.

wow, she was upset because you don't know what school district you are in... umm, I have lived in my condo for 3 years and I couldn't tell you what school district I'm in... I could guess which schools my kids would go to (if I had any, which thank God I don't yet)... I still know though that if I so desired I could get that information in less than 5 minutes online.

If it makes you feel better I get a variation of that at work, the what can you personally recomend people... um we're out at the airport, I don't live anywhere close... I can tell you some good places, like the Astro Burger at 39th South and State, or the Betos on State just south of 33rd South, or the Gringos on 45th South and 9th East, or even the Nick N Willies on Highland and 45th South... want to know about by the airport... sorry, out of luck.

That's nothing. I've lived in my current apartment for 17 years as of last Friday, and I have no clue what school district my building is in.

Being in a good school's catchment area is pretty much a guarantee of adding a few thousand to the price of a house over here. Mind you, the local chavs have done their best to reduce the value of the local area...

Schools no longer have 'set' catchment areas, it's basically a lottery as to which school you get into now.

Geez! I can see how you might be expected to have that information, but there was no need for her to get nasty. The minute you said you were a temp and had only been there for 2 days, she should have shut the hell up and just left a message. Why was it so urgent that she couldn't wait a few hours to have someone call her back? Was she being evicted from her place and needed to move that day?

Looks like I'm showing my age and lack of television...

I'm still right about the chavs, though.
