To me, a "pop" is a smack upside the head.Quoth Samaliel View PostHa, the old Soda vs. Pop vs. Coke debate... I'm all soda : he convinced me.
I used to say "coke" as the generic term (spent most of my school years in the south), but then I figured out the existence of this mysterious stuff called "Pepsi" and the conflict bugged me enough I started saying "soda"....WHY DO YOU TEMPT WHAT LITTLE FAITH IN HUMANITY I HAVE!?! -- Kalga

Yes, he's an ass for expecting you to bend the rules about eating in the library, but don't just assume he's lying about being diabetic. He may have been starting to get shakes, so he went down to get a snack. My mom often makes me grab an orange juice for her at teh store because she doesn't plan well enough to eat BEFORE going for groceries *rolls eyes* drives me nuts.GK/Kara/Jester fangirl.

Wow. When I had diabetes...drinking a single soda would make me go blind in one eye for a while.
While that was trippy...I got the feeling it was bad and so I quit.

Ok, have to chime in, as I'm a Type II Diabetic. The ADA says splenda is just fine, and won't affect your blood sugar levels, and that works for me. Because I'm horribly allergic to asptartame.
Anyway, in the year or so I've been dealing with this, even I would know better than to chug a regular soda and crackers. I can see getting the crackers and slowly eating a few, or having a few sips of the soda, but yeah, I have to go with the consensus here and assume that he was just looking for an excuse.

Oh, you mean the Jones Sodas and the Mexican Coca Cola (there's a place in NC that will ship you real sugar Mountain Dew, but I can't remember where it is right now).Quoth PepperElf View Postside topic but... kinda makes me wonder....
most regular sodas use that corn syrup crap. but what about the full-sugar sodas that use real sugar (like those cokes they sell for passover that use cane sugar)?
That's a good question, can anyone ring in on this particular subject?Ridiculous 2009 Predictions: Evil Queen will beat Martha Stewart to death with a muffin pan. All hail Evil Queen! (Some things don't need elaboration.....) -- Jester

In my (European) experience, the generic name for a "Coke-alike" is "cola". This covers Pepsi and any number of no-name similarly-flavoured drinks (but not Dandelion & Burdock). It isn't a generic term for sodas or fizzy drinks, though.

I have an uncle who is literally full-blown diabetic, yet he eats a bag of candy every day. You read correctly: Every day! On top of that, he eats a big, juicy steak once or sometimes twice a week, and two or three hamburgers once or twice a week. It's a sure bet this guy has never put a vegetable down his throat, let alone a meat that's healthier, like chicken.
I still am confused though. How does having diabetes hurt a person's being outside? That's a new one.
