Guest: yea we are here to check in

(this is 11 am and check in is at 4)

    Me: last name?

    She tells me

Me: OK your unit is not ready yet

Guest: thats not what I wanted to hear. When will it be ready?

Me: well check in is not until 4

Guest: surely you dont expect me to wait that long

Me: thats the check in time

Guest: you already told me that but you must know when it will be ready

Me: I dont ma'am, I am sorry. I can call you when it is

    Twenty minutes later

Guest: is my place ready yet?

Me: did someone call and say it was ready?

    Guest: No

    Me: then it's not ready

Guest: you know I have kids waiting to take naps and eat lunch....this is pissing me off.....I am not gonna rent through you people ever again

    Another 15-20 minutes

    Guest: IS IT READY NOW?

    Me: no ma'am

Guest: what the fuck is going on here?

Me: Ma'am please stop using that language

Guest: I am just saying, this aint right. Can I get the keys if I promise not to go again>

Me: No, keys arent released until the property is ready

Guest: we wont go in, I swear

    Me: No ma'am

Guest: what? you dont trust me?

    Me: it's our policy, ma'am

Guest: yea and your policies suck.....I hate this state, I wish we never came here,,,,,goodbye asshole

    Another 15-20 minutes

Guest: dont even tell me its not ready this time or I am gonna blow up on you

    Me: it's not ma'am

Guest: GD you stupid mother f____ing people...,,.,,,...just give me the keys

    Me: I cant

Guest: and what would you do if I came back there and snatched them from you and ran away?

Me: cancel your reservation and call security

    Guest: f___ you

Me: Ma'am, we will call you when it's ready

She crossed her arms and pouted like a five year old and stomped out of the lobby

she the returned with two cartons of melted ice cream

    Guest: do something with this

She dumps one of the cartons of melted ice cream on our counter and puts the other one there and walks off.

This time the manager took a stand

Manager: ma'am your reservation is cancelled and there is no refund

Guest: How dare you.....I will slap you people with such a lawsuit like you've never seen.
Manager: No maam, we reserve the right to ask disruptive guests to leave without a refund

Furthermore, he called the other rental agencies to warn them about her in case she showed up there. Not sure if they ever sued or not but I will let you all know if I hear anything.

I can only imagine her thought process here.

"I'm so angry... I have to get back at them! I know! I'll pour ice cream on their counter! THEN they'll give me what I want!"

Kudos on your manager for telling her to get the hell out.

Yay for a manager with a spine! You have a lot more patience than I do for that kind of language.

Yeah? On what grounds? *Yawn* Another empty threat of litigation. Here. How's this? Oh no please not a lawsuit! Whatever were we thinking? Here's your keys, and a refund, and free stays for life and everyone is fired.

            Wow!

I've been threatened with so many lawsuits I really don't bat an eyelash any more when the term comes up.

Really though, do people not realize the check in times are what they are so the housekeepers have time to clean up the rooms and the front desk does not know in advance when a particular room will be ready?

11 am. Golly, I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to try and check in that early.

wow, your manager grew a pair... miracles do happen.

and I get that too... people who come in and want an early check in and get upset when you tell them because the previous night was sold out they would have to wait for housekeeping to come and clean the room.

I gotta call bullshit here. Anybody who has kids knows that they are never waiting to take a nap. They either drift off wherever they are, or they fight it to the bitter end.

Think positive thoughts...at least she didn't bring her cranky kids in to terrorize you while they waited.

But it's their JOB to know! Seriously though, had you let her have her way. no doubt she would have bitched because her room wasn't clean or they were still in the process of cleaning it or some other stupid shit.

So... I understand that these are rental properties, and the people renting them obviously need to stock them with groceries. And even buying them beforehand isn't that unusual. My family used to do it all the time.

Y'know what? We used a COOLER. And we NEVER bought stuff like Ice cream until we knew we had access to a freezer. That's just common...

Oh, wait, how SILLY of me! Common sense is only for people who DON'T have lawyers!

I've seen first hand idiocy involving ice cream and lack of a place to store it.

At the grocery store I work at some woman bought a whole shopping cart full of ice cream and other things that had to stay cold or frozen. But she had arranged for someone to pick her up at 3:30pm.

She had finished shopping at 2:30pm on a day with weather in the mid 80's, then insisted on standing outside and waiting for her ride to get there.

I even offered to let her store the cold stuff in some of the coolers/freezers, or to use the phone (which isn't technically a courtesy phone, but I was feeling generous). She became agitated, told me that she didn't need that, but kept asking the time.

I imagine by the time her ride got there almost her entire load of groceries (and the cart was completely full, threatening to spill over onto the ground) was ruined.

Methinks her cunning plan wasn't thought all the way through!

From the other posts from vacation_rentals_suck, either he has different manager and the one with a spine happened to be on duty this day, or one of the spineless ones got abducted by aliens and replace by a pod-person.

Also, I think I read that checkout time was 11am for your properties ? What, did she think she could get in as soon as the previous guest / rentee had left ? I gotta admit, 5 hours for housekeeping to do its job might seem a bit long, but still :
                            - I sorta understood that you got properties for rent scattered all across the island, so it might explain why it would take so much time;
                            - for Zod's sake, rentees, guests and customers of any kind, READ the contract you sign, and plan accordingly to what you're told !

Also, if she hated that state, why did she go there in the first place ?

The room may be done sooner, I'm sure, but the 4pm is just the guaranteed time for check in. And I'm guessing that the moment she started throwing a hissy fit and acted like a child, he wasn't going to be the nice guy he could be and let her know IF they got done cleaning the room earlier.

Anytime I go on vacation and arrive at the destination earlier than the check in time, I've always just gone shopping/ checked out local dives/ explore whatever until that time. You know, do what I was there to do in the first place

This woman was just being a jerk
