Wow, the SC signed and still complained about you not telling him the price. Egad, maybe it's his twin brother who signed his name Anyway, welcome to SC

I think half the problem with this is the customer wasn't listening when I was consulting him on his project. Just randomly sign where ever there is an "X". Then later finding out what they signed for and try to deny it.

Why don't customers listen to us? *sigh*

When I first read this I was reminded of a story I read back in the archives - and (after a pleasant search of some of the older stories) I've found it.

I think this is a much better way to handle the situation.

A good way get a spineless manager out is to go over their heads. Granted you probably have spineless amangement up there too, but once you outline the cost to the company and impact to profits for their failure to uphold policy, they start to listen. Also if you fear possible retribution, see if you can submit it anonymously.

I say if a system is in place, use it. the only way some people learn is by losing their jobs.

What???!!!! I can't believe your boss gave in to that guy, even though proof was available showing that this SC agreed to that price. Sounds like he had it all planned out anyway. Be nice and agreeable, then a total SC when you pick up your product. I'm trying to do that math here, and doesn't that come to nearly $450 that this guy stole? It's 15 cents per page times 3,000, if I read your thread correctly. If that's correct, I guess that guy can take a little vacation and celebrate, right?

                  Actually it would be

                  Bulk rate (nickle a copy) .05 X 3000 = 150.00
                  Card Stock Covers at .15 X 30 = 4.50
                  Binding 30 X 2.50 = 75.00

                  Total out is $229.50

And the amount this cost the copy shop would be around $0.015 per copy for the paper and the maint cost (figure paper will run $0.0075 (3/4 of a cent) per page and the maint is gonna be around the same. You also have to figure in the lease cost so maybe the total cost to the shop is 2 cents plus labor to run it.

All in all this cost the copy shop between 60 and 80 bucks just in materials and costs, not to mention the profit that was lost.

                  This managerr should be flogged.

Why? Because my "estimate" wasn't exact.

                      Sucky, Lazy Management

In this case, it's the sucky lazy management who rather than make this customer understand the company has policies and must be paid for their work, they would much rather just give in than have to deal with a customer. These are the worst because you follow policy, and they DON'T! They can and will make your job harder. Yet, if you ever have the idea to think for yourself and actually help a customer, they will go against you on that. Sort of like the place I work for now. I often go to work wondering do we have ANY policies regarding the customer. I know they are on paper and our web-site, for everyone to see, but customer's don't read and lazy management don't hold them accountable, leaving you feeling like you're in the middle of both the losers.
