  • Hello? Yes, you're an idiot.

Since when did "Ok" mean "Bye?" I HATE it when someone calls me and at the end of the call they say "Ok" or "Whatever" and then hang up. Have you ever heard of MANNERS?

I have to start every phone call with "<company name> Customer Care. This is bardicwench. May I have your name and agent id, please?"

Sometimes people give me the 6 digit id... but no name. Ok, but I need your name to verify that I'm pulling up the correct account...

And telling me, "Oh, I just have a quick question" instead of your name/id is not going to get me to help you any faster. I need that information to log the call.

And, yes, I understand that you're busy and that you maybe call 8 million times (because you're too freaking stupid to remember how to do anything) but do NOT cut me off when I'm in the middle of my greeting and rattle off your id number and name. This is not starting off the call in a good way.

    And lastly... for today...

You're been on hold for 38 seconds. Literally. That's how long your call has been in the queue. We're NOT busy. Why did you put me on HOLD while you were waiting?!? Guess what? I hung up. Call back. I'm not waiting for you to take me off of hold when you were the one who called me!

Gah, I hate being put on hold! If your job is answering phones, maybe you should wait to go on break before you call ME about the book you want. Because guess what- I have other calls to take and customers to help and don't fracking have time to wait around while you conclude your OTHER business!

      Sorry, pet peeve.

I also hate when people call and I answer, "Thank you for calling >bookstore<, may I help you?" And they say, "WHO IS THIS?"

I usually answer in a frosty tone, "To WHOM do you wish to speak?" Nothing throws annoying people off their stride like the 4-letter W word!

When I worked in the regular call center, any call that came through where the customer had put me on hold was automatically disconnected. If your other call was that important, your call to us was not important enough for me to wait for you. And I had many calls where the customer had done just that, and was calling back mad because an agent was not waiting to be taken off hold.

What annoys the hell out of me...is when people call, and immediately put *me* on hold. Then they get pissy when I have to hang up on them. What's up with that? I mean, it's not like I can be stuck on hold all day, I have other, more important work to do!

the other variation on that (oh and let me lend my support to hating people who call into call centers and need to place the call on hold before we even answer... no matter how short the queu)... if you call into the hotel and you hear a lot of noise in the background and I ask you to please hold... you will be on hold for a while... calling back will get the exact same treatment... except now I've placed you even further down on the answer time because you are now behind the current last person in line... if you don't want to hold, try calling back when it's not so busy.

If they call me at work and then put me on hold, I will hang up. Now if they say let me get some pen and paper, then that is different.

If someone randomly puts me on hold I will say "Hello" once, the hang up. If they say "oh, i need to ask someone about this, my pen died let me get anopther" etc I will wait a reasonable amount of time. Even in a supermarket, I am always amazed at the numebr of time people do this

If someone calls me and then puts me on hold, they better be someone really damn famous, like the President or Governor or some such.

I hate people who just hang up when they're done talking...so rude. I had an employee who would do that, and I eventually wrote him up for it.

I've called people and put them on hold. I try not to do it, I hate doing it, but occasionally I just have to. I might be making a "personal business" call, like making a dentist appointment or something. I have to do these at work because I am at work when the dentist's office is open. Or I might be making a work-related call. I'll wait until no one is in the office and everything is quiet to make the call, then I'll be probably be put on hold, and just when the person answers, someone walks in to my office and needs my immediate attention.

Have you ever noticed how people on television do this ALL THE TIME? Maybe your employee has been watching too much TV.
