Do you ever get customers who are doctors or lawyers, or some other high paying job, that believe they're entitled to special treatment?...."Entitlement whores" is what my roommate calls them, which is the perfect word.

"I'm a doctor, and my credit is excellent. I want the advanced payment/deposit waived."

    Things like that...

"Oh okay, sorry sir, I was unaware of your profession. Please excuse my ignorance. Please hold for one sec while I press my special 'Doctor/Lawyer' button to bring up the special treatment page"

I haven't had any Doctors make a big deal out their profession, but their wives now....!

I was doing work in a house a few years ago and the woman kept referring to her husband as "The Doctor". She said it so many times in the course of an hour and a half that by the time "The Doctor" put in an appearance it was all I could do to keep from saying "Hi! So you're THE DOCTOR, huh? You know, I have met so many impostors!"

      <checks post listing> yup, you're new. Welcome!

Yeah, a lot of people here have had them, myself included. I get a kick out of the ones that say they spent $5000 at my store last month. I love telling him that if he can tack on an extra zero consistently every month and be polite, then he'll get special treatment.

Works even better when the manager says the same thing.

The biggest problem I had was with lawyers pulling the "I'll Sue" card out of their arse anytime they weren't getting the special treatment, ie: having to wait a couple of days like everyone else. I'd stand my ground but as soon as they went to the owners, they'd get whatever they want.

I can't recall any specific problems with a doctor, at least not because of his "status".

They do that to me too.....especially the lawyers.....if anything doesnt go their way, no matter how trivial, they threaten us with a lawsuit. I once had a man claiming to be a lawer threaten to sue me because he had to go a night without cable. It's absurd

No doctors or lawyers here, but I work at a gym located on University campus. So when asked to follow simple policies/procedures I sometimes get:
"I am a perspective student at this University!" ...and that is relevant how?

My husband is a doctor. He is a Ph.D. He gets embarrassed when my mom sends us things in the mail addressed to Dr. & Mrs. Khouri.

Most of the Ph.Ds I know hate being called 'doctor'. On the other hand, all the M.Ds I know (except for one) insist on it. I wonder if this is indicative of some personality trait common to medical doctors or Ph.Ds?

I'll wager that 98% of them aren't actually doctors or lawyers.

Partially because I'm related to a bunch of lawyers, and none of them would ever describe themselves as a "lawyer", they're all "attorney"s.

I've seen the same thing at my job at the gym. A kid was told he needed an adult to come in (he was under 13) and his mom apparently got ROYALLY pissy, kept repeating the "My husbands a doctor" mantra over the phone. Best part is that when dad came in to pick up his son, he was as nice as can be.

You should've asked her how big the TARDIS was.

Oh man. I have a key chain from Doctor Who that makes the Tardis sound. It would be such a blast to have pressed the Tardis sound when "The Doctor" walked in. It also says "Exterminate! Exterminate!". That could have been fun, too.

This is just like my old roommate. She has a Ph.D. in Human Genetics (of course the degree has some ridiculously long subtitle and I have no idea what it means, so pretend I do ). When telemarketers would call in, I would love to correct them from asking for Ms. So-And-So to Doctor So-And-So. She never went by that though. The most she had was Ph.D. after her name on her business cards. I think I liked flaunting her doctor status more than she did. I told everyone I knew and worked it into conversations all the time...

Ok, this is starting to sound obsessive, so I'll just say "Yes, I agree!"
