  • You're all stupid and your manager is STUPID!!!

Thankfully, I did not have to deal with this guy directly. Sometimes, being made to do those boring - but mandatory - company training modules has its advantages.

    First the background.

Back when Staples first started carrying Dell products, there was an offer printed on the boxes for the Dell 926 printer that it came with an exclusive two year Staples TSP (technical support and protection plan. Our extended warranty) free.

Unfortunately, whichever bozo or group of bozos at the home office that came up with that promotion neglected to tell the stores about it. Nor did they give us any instructions on how to deal with it. In, we had no idea about it until the printers arrived and we saw that printed on the box.

We opened one (since we had to set up a floor model anyway) and found NOTHING in the box about it.

Our GM at the time made a few phone calls to try and figure this out. As I recall, the gist of it was that we were to ring the customer in for a standard two-year TSP, then apply an internal coupon code equal to the value of the plan ($14.99), and have them register the plan normally. OK fine. But I never saw that coupon code and to this day have only sold THREE of those printers ever (because they are.....how should I put this......HAMMERED SHITE!!!!), so I never ended up knowing all the details about that offer.

Then the promotion ended and I forgot about it.

Yesterday, while I was taking the aforementioned mandatory training, Jake, our technician (who was watching the sales floor so I could take the training uninterrupted)c came over and asked me if I knew anything about a free 2 year plan with a Dell printer. He wasn't working here during the original promotional period.

I told him what little I knew about it, and that as far as I knew, that promotion was long since over.

Well, apparently they've started sending us Dell 926s with the free plan thing on them again. Whether this means they've started the promotion back up again - without telling us, AGAIN - or if the warehouse was shipping us old stock (which has been happening lately), I don't know.

Jake: There's a grumpy old guy over there right now demanding to know.

Me: Well, you're going to have to ask Alice or Professor X about it, because I do not know.

    Jake: Fair enough

He paged the MOD and had a brief conversation, then went back over to see the customer.

Not even a minute later he came back.

Jake: Ok. Now he's calling me names.

    Me: What? What'd he say?

Jake: I told him what Professor X told me to say, that he was looking into it and would let him know in a few minutes. Then he said "You're all stupid. Everyone who works here is stupid, and your manager is a moron because you guys don't know what you're selling!!!"

    Me: Um.....ok.....

    He paged the MOD again.

Jake (on phone): OK, he's calling me names, and insulted you. *repeats what he already told me* That's when I turned around and walked away. OK.....OK.....alright. *hangs up*

Professor X and Alice (both of the managers in the building at the time) came over to see him, and he kept them occupied for a full five minutes, refusing to let either of them leave. I didn't wander close enough to hear, but there was much finger-pointing, waving of arms, and overall drama. He ended up leaving empty-handed.

I'm just glad I didn't have to talk to him, though I still felt the effects because while he was arguing with the managers, I had finished the training and subsequently needed to get behind a locked door to get something for a customer, and they couldn't break away to let me in, forcing me and my customer to wait.

    RIP Plaidman.

I always love the home office (admin in my case) [/sarcasm],. They see something at a conference or show and they want to impliment it, because it worked for somone else. Of course, they don't know that it worked somewhere else doesnt' mean it will work here. Anyway, your home office sounds like it's full of idiots, for not giving the correct info. to help the customers.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.
