Any call center reps here who cannot stand those idiots who just right after a long explanation or even a simple, "i will be putting you on hold" and they just do not say a word. A simple verbal acknowledgement would be nice cause it would be stupid to be talking myself.

Or those customers who just finish speaking and before I could say a word, they just say "hello" Give me a chance a speak jeez! Come on I have been talking for 7 hours, can i take a breather? Jeez

I didn't get that much, but eh, if I was transferring them, I didn't care. My job was done at that point.

Yeah. That was kinda annoying. Especially when a cow-irker or supe was trying to give me some information, or get some information from me.

Same. Whenever I'm working the phones at the food bank and I have to put someone on hold or transfer them I just do it and rarely wait for a response.

I hated people who, the INSTANT I stopped speaking, would shout "HELLO!" as if I had disappeared for minutes at a time.

If you're giving them a little pause to say something, then yeah, that's a whole big awkward moment of wondering if they heard or what's going on. Unfortunately and way too often, I've had people say, 'please hold' and before I can even take a breath, let alone say, 'alright, thank you' or 'wait, the ceiling is caving in!!', they plop me into muzak land. Maybe the ones that hush up are just used to that?

What I hate is when I get back on the phone, and either I start speaking (for ex., "I found the answer..." or "I'm back...") and then finish and wait for some acknowledgement, and I hear nothing. Then I realized I was put on hold. I hang up then. Sorry it took a min. for me to find that ph. number for One Pawn on Gessner, but if you took the time to dial our number, then I think you have the time for me to get back on the line to give you the info.

            I also hate speaker phones.

My pet peeve is people that won't let me finish my spiel, just hold on a sec it only takes all of like 3 seconds to say it.

I swear both of those happen to me on a daily basis, cause we get graded if we got permission to put them on hold. Then they do not say a word so I have to repeat it.

I hate them too! The customers don't realise how quiet they sound if they speak through the loudspeaker.

What's worse though is when two customers, normally a husband and wife, decide to ring me to get a quote, and they'll both be speaking to me through an extension. Every question I ask, I'll get an answer from one, then the other one will contradict it, and they'll start having a mini argument with me awkwardly listening.

Had a bloke today tell me we were behind the times with a hold music system that didn't allow you to select your own choice of aural pleasure. "Press one for Mozart, two for ironmongery being dropped into a tin can..."

I was awake enough to tell him we tried not to put people on hold at all and he seemed satisfied.

                      Yay - score for me!

On a somewhat related note, I've always wondered what happens when the customer does not give permission to be put on hold. Anyone?

"In order to get you taken care of today I do need to go and research this issue for you. If you don't want to listen to our hold programming I can just put you on mute and you won't have to hear anything. Is that okay?"

If they say no after that I'd go and do my research while singing to myself... in a very off-key voice.

I think I got that once or 2x. I tell them, "Then I'm going to leave the phone off the hook. I'll be back in a moment with your answer."

Sort of off topic. We have to transfer within the company a bit. We have a couple of overseas offices. There is a constant use of the mute key rather than hold. The only problem with mute is it sounds just like a call drop. It has been brought up to training, but doesn't seem to stick. Oh well.
