Guest: Dave, I am so upset............we went down to the clubhouse on the island because my kids wanted to swim in the pool and the rich people wont let us swim in their pool

Me: well the clubhouse is for property owner's only but you have a pool where you are

Guest: my kids dont like that pool

Guest: why wasnt I told this was a rich people's island? We just some simple country folk that wanna go to the beach and I think it's despicable how we are being treated. My kids want to swim in the rich people's pool and I want you to get us wristbands so they can go.

Me: I cant do that

Guest: well then I want to be upgraded to oceanfront

Me: ok but you'll have to pay the rate difference

Guest: I aint paying no f___ing rate difference, you people did us wrong...I should be compensated for the humiliation I endured. They wouldnt let us swim in their pool and they wont let us on their golf course because we cant afford it and we cant eat in their restaurants because we cant afford it. Why would you spend so much money on a vacation that you didn't have enough left over to pay for other things, like food? Or is there a "rich people" restaurant and a "poor person" restaurant?

Every once in a GREAT while, I feel some empathy towards people like this.. Shit's EXPENSIVE!!! But.. I have manners and tact. I ask, get told yes or no, try a little charm if I'm told no, AND LEAVE IT AT THAT!!!

Yeah that all just sounded really lame & friggn weird. There are tons of things that are private. If what he was given wasn't good enough for him perhaps he should sue the country/world and ask for true equality where rich people can't have the crap they earned cuz it's unfair...or something.

Some people might not like the salt water, or getting tossed around by waves. Also, not everyone can handle walking on sand--when my grandmother still went on vacation with us, she never went down to the beach. She was afraid she'd fall on the uneven surface. She wasn't bored though--she'd work on her crosswords, cross-stitch, or just sit out on the porch and watch people go by.

Still though, these people sound like cheap bastards. You don't see people like that in Cape May, NJ very often. Having to pay for a beach tag tends to keep the riff-raff out. Sorry Madmike, but they all seem to go to Avalon or Wildwood Seriously though, it can be an expensive place to eat, even though you *do* get what you pay for, IMHO. That's not to say there aren't cheaper places--the pizza shop in the outdoor mall, the sandwich shops and arcades off Beach Drive, etc.

Egad. I probably would understand their point if they were promised access to the pool and the rich people kept them out. But they had their own pool. If the other pool was much better but they didn't pay to use it, tough nuggy. Also, they should feel bad for the rich people who have to have on a wrist band to use the pool!

I go on vacations a lot, and a lot of them were with tours, but I brought my own money for stuff and if I didn't have enough then I did without, or else, budget...either eat for the whole cruise or buy 4 drinks, but not both.
