then there is me who had a car battery changed at a major store (catalog was known for its great wiping pages)
I get back home and had heard a noise so I poped the hood. Yup their super brainiac left a flat head screwdriver in my car. Had it fallen during driving it could have done damage.
(at the time gasoline was a resonable cost) I drove back to the store to return it. They argued with me that it wasn't theirs.
I made it clear that no damage had been done . . .just wanted to return their property to them and make them aware for training purposes to be more careful. They still denied it was theirs . . .I calmly set it on the counter and walked out.
Chose to inform as many people as I could about what happened and never went back to the store.

I hate to play devil's advocate here, but if he/she didn't open up with that they could make the problem worse.

She's in the middle of a criminal act and was warned what would happen. She went from client to thief, so she's not worth keeping good business relations with, and the worst she can claim to the police is that the supe was rude to her. While she's in possession of stolen property.

Yeah, I want to see the results of that incident.

I hope the supe didn't begin with "I'm sorry to disturb you ma'm" in the suplicant tone of voice.
