  • Hurricane woes at the library

The hurricane hit our city. We only have 4 libraries open. When you call and ask what is open, and I name the 4 libraries that are open, don't then ask, "what about the...?"

Also, stop asking "when will those libraries that are closed will open?" when I tell you "I don't know". Keep on asking "but when will they open?" won't make the answer change.

Also, stop asking for someone to tell you when the closed library will open. No one knows when they will open. We have to have engineers look at them (or whoever). And engineers don't show up, close their eyes, reach out to the ethers, and give a diffenite answer. They have to look and explore or whatever. So just deal. I had one woman call and kept on bagering me about when one particular library would open, and she wanted to know who she could talk to. Finally she said she teaches an ESL class on Mondays, and she wanted to know if it will be open Mon. I told her it diffinately won't be open Monday.

Another guy was adamate about talking to someone so I gave him a number to an assistant to a district manager. Considering all staff of the libraries (except for the libraries that are open) are at the downtown library, he isn't going to get a response soon.

There is a gov't program called the blue roof program. It offers temp. help/repairs for roofs that were affected. They are set up outside the library, and one security person, one librarian and some other staff from the program has to staff it. From 8am to 7pm. Again, they are outside of the building. But we have to be open from 8am to 7pm. Weekdays and Sat., we open at 9am, so no biggie, but Sun. we open at 1pm. So they need staff in the building at those hours. Luckily Sun is overtime pay, but I'm too far away just to make an extra trip.

We also offer FEMA assistance, which is mostly use of our computers but librarians will help a bit. We set aside some computers and I saw a bunch of people using those computers for other stuff. So I made a general announcement:
These computers are for filing out forms on the FEMA website. If you are not filing out a form or using the FEMA website we ask you to use the computers on the first floor. Thank you.

Now when I finished that first sentence, this crazy woman yelled, "I'm filling out forms for FEMA assistance! I can't get off the computer!" Wow, everyone is just persecuting you: the hurricane fairy, the electricity goblin, now the mean ol' librarian, who if you actually listen to you wouldn't have peed your pants.

    More latter.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.
