Customer Gave Attitude Over Packing Bags

Yesterday, I was ringing up a customer and she packed her items. I let customers pack their own items if they choose to. The customer acted like it was a big deal to pack her bags even though I didn't force her to pack them. She told me that she ran around to get her bags packed and that I should thank her which I did.

WTF? I wonder what her problem was. Occasionally I'll pack my own bags but I'm never nasty about it. I figure the baggers (which there are few in the local HEB I go to) are short staffed or busy taking bags out to cars. I have no problem with it myself.

Some people need to just lighten up.

*sigh* And this is why I prefer to pack my own groceries. And never, ever buy clothing at a grocery store. Food and fabric don't mix, and neither does a tub of frozen rice dream mix well with some cardboard packages.

Don't arsk me about the twit who decided to put a bottle of bleach in a bag that already contained two loaves of bread.

I guess its because its not as commonplace in the UK to have baggers (I've been offered help with packing, but usually refuse politely) but I'd feel really awkward about it. Its happened to me once or twice where someone's helped me pack, but even then I wanted some input in what went where. As well, if I'm shopping, I'm usually shopping at the same time as the elderly or people with kids and I'd rather they get the help than me.

On topic though, there's just no winning with some people, ever.

If she made the choice to bag her own stuff then that is her choice. In regards to customers bagging their own, yes I have said there are people who don't know how to bag. I've seen people put deli meat with raw meat and that is a big not to do. I can't stand most of the baggers at the walmart near where I live becaus they don't pay attention. I understand people are tracked for how many people they ring through but you can pay attention. I think that's where the you don't know what your doing attitude comes from. Adding in you get the people who are only working there because they choose to or it's the highschool kid whose parents have money and want them to learn to be responsible but they get the wrong job. I'm NOT saying this is true in every case but I have seen it.
Sorry went off subject a little bit but had to add my two cents.
And I agree with Evil Queen on the fact people need to lighten up about certain things.For example so the bagger put a tshirt with a can of soup no biggie. I think the customer overall in this case just wanted something to bitch about no matter what.

I basically always bag my own groceries unless I don't care about the way it gets bagged i.e. a box of cereal and some cans of soup. I don't let the baggers touch my groceries because I've had too much stuff ruined. I realize not all baggers are bad (I was a great bagger, back in the day) but the good ones are outnumbered by the idiots, at least in my area.

The one kid just would not take no for an answer when I refused his offer to help. He moved back behind the cashier, put my eggs in a bag, followed by bread, then grabbed my 1/2 gallon of milk and tried to add it to the bag. I snapped at him to just leave my stuff alone and he looked hurt, but If you think a 1/2 gallon of milk belongs on the top of bread & eggs, then you should NOT be bagging groceries.

I bag stuff myself because I'm picky how stuff is put into bags. I am always polite about it.

It's actually kinda sucky these days, because a lot of people get freaked out about using plastic bags. Some people want everything in one bag, some people don't care at all, some people want everything separate, for three 'no mix' items. And the people with cloth bags, you kind of have to mix things together, or you run out really fast.

We're timed at our store as well, but it's by how many items we ring up in an hour. I don't really care about it though, since after a couple months, I'm at least a hundred items above the rule.

There's a few grocery stores here and there where they are short staffed on baggers or it's that time of night where there aren't any left or just one.

One night my ex and I were buying some stuff for a late night cookout, and there were only a few registers open and one bagger. One register had a customer with an overflowing cart. They needed the bagger more than we did.

So I went down to the end and said "Come on buddy, let's go!" in a joking manner and bagged myself.

My ex was like "Wow...that was pretty fast...." and the cashier said "Do you want an app?"

I haven't bagged in a store(well getting paid for it) for about 5 and a half years but I've had people do the same thing. If your good at it and there is a store that sucks at it I say go for it. I know you were joking when you said it but it seems more and more alot of these places are going down hill. And in regards to the plastic bags they SUCK. There is one store in the area that you have to double bag everything and they are so small you end up using more.

We have one couple who will demand that a employee bag their groceries. Then they will move to a closed lane, and unpack everything and pack it they we we were supposed to do it. The correct way vary s each time. They usually complain to the MOD or Head Cashier. We suspect it may be some sort of mental illness, which makes it not sucky if true.
